View Full Version : - Project AE86 Drift Car -

Faze.
01-20-2009, 05:51 PM
I have finished most of the body work. All that is left is more sanding and filling. The car will be pink once it is painted. I ran out of primer, so I used some of the pink paint incase you were wondering why only parts of the car were painted. (The lip is from the new drift style Trueno autoscales. I'm mad that kyosho came out with those after I started my project haha).

Here are the progress pictures up until today: Please comment!

Thanks! The wheels are made by Tagu. They are the 02Racing model, and are .5W all the way around.

Yeah every time I see one of your Mini Z's posted up on that minizracer forum. I am bamboozled on how much detail you put into them and not just that but the quality of your pictures is got to be best I have seen Mini Z's

This looks like it actually in one of the cars in formula drift or something that would be seen at a drifting event.

Definitive KILLER!

Not my choice of color, but friggin' excellent body work and stance.

Sweed- I remember a Faze from xmw... I think? It's been a long time. We should meet there... Tonight. In the back parking lot.

taiwanesekid05 - Thanks! Means a lot!

Spoon_Tuner - Thanks for the kind words! I can't wait for it to be completed.

XMDrifter - At the rate I work, probably another month or so haha.

Sweed - Yea, that's me. I remember you from Infernal and XMW back in the day. I don't visit XMW anymore, that site went downhill.

Donziikid - Thanks. I never noticed this forum before, and i've seen some nice projects on here, so I decided to join. This forum seems to be very well organized and welcoming.

texan_idiot25 - Thanks! Yea, I remember seeing you on XMW too.

I'm going to the hobby shop in a few minutes to pick up some primer. I blended the lip some more, now I just have to shoot it with primer. Once I fill in all the little imperfections, I am ready for the first coat of paint.

I am also in the process of sanding down my Falken Trueno autoscale, and I am going to make a custom front bumper for it since I stole the lip from it to use on my pink AE86. I will be using the side skirts and rear bumper that came with it, and I will be painting it white with black bumpers.

I'll post some pictures when I have both bodies primered.

I actually liked your stitch idea that you tried on the side skirts, I may borrow that for my own racing 86. Body kit is defenetly smooth, but also seems way too plain and kyosho-like. Consider adding a few more strips of styrene to liven it up. You've already started the project and haven't lost the desire to finish, so make it worth the time and money dude.

Look where the tow hook is in this picture:

http://www.deadpirateproductions.com/Pics/FalkenAE86.JPG

That's an odd place for a tow hook... It's not like they went:

"Fred, point to a random place on the car."
"Okay, there."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Okay, I guess that's where we're putting the tow hook!"
"Wait, what?..."

Faze.
02-10-2009, 08:46 PM
It's not an odd place. It's a common place. There and on the front bumper are where they put them.

theoriganalRiD3R1967
02-10-2009, 08:53 PM
, i think people are confusing this type of tow hook with the one they see on every day cars, i beleive this one is made mostly for getting the car/remains of a car, off the track as quick as possible, not like an everday driver sort of thing, on the hood is out in the open so the tow truck driver can hitch it up in a matter of seconds

it aslo probably easier becuse the frame of the car, in this case, is so close to the hood, same with the bumper

I ran out of paint for the mirrors on the front, so I just put some carbon fiber decal over them. I'm happy with the result, but I'd rather have them be pink.

I vote for a black roof. Like gloss if the rest of the car is gloss...
And a spoiler like this one. And black mirrors, possibly black trim. But that's my personal taste. Honestly though, Faze, your the man, as always. Love the car... And the wheel fitment, it's just perfect.
