so i bought this car about two weeks ago for $300. it runs very well.
its a three speed automatic on the tree. i plan on moving it two a floor shifter. im pretty sure its a 3.0liter but its the original inline six. its not very fast but its alot of to drive. but right know the power steering pump its out and i need to bleed the brakes, so right now its not safe but i still drive it around.
so here she goes,

Welcome to rust.

It's much like a bad girl friend. Sure, the girl may look great, and be a good runner. But inside, there is something growing. Something, unrelenting, and evil. It spreads like cancer. Eating away at your soul, and you wallet. No matter how much you try and please it, it continues on and on and on, until either your patience, or wallet, runs out.

Rust: My enemy.

mix the rust with fine aluminum powder. you get thermite :firedevi:

bot, that's a pretty neat car. make it yellow, orange, or dark green. or it actually may look great just primered with red or black rims.

Looks like a good project. I think the cars that nobody really knows about are more fun than the common ones. I'm trying to get my hands on an 80s Olds Cutlass(Olds version of the Buick GN or Chevy MC), but I may have to settle for a Monte Carlo.

I can answer that for him :bigwink: . Well, Spitfire and i are gonna bring it into our autobody shop class at school, we both are 2nd years and have it good with our teacher. He is gona bring it in and we are gonna do the body work, actually all the body work and paint it :) I think he is sending the chrome peices away to be re diped.

it gos on the bottom of the steering wheel column. so i went to the
local junk yard and found a maverick and the part i
need is on it. so the next day i go with some tools and start to
take is apart. i get to the last bolt and head of the bolt is rounded away and rusty
and wouldnt buge. man i was ****t. brand new there three hunderd
dallors. so tomorrow im going to a swamp meet and my hopes
are up. but then to top it off, my starter locked up and now it wont start,

Get some 3M penetrating lube. And invest in a really good impact wrench and breaker bar. All you'll need to bust old bolts loose.

Starting to look good mayne.

Body work is my least favorite past time though

spitfire
01-21-2009, 06:25 PM
I kinda like it. Its not that bad. My favorit part is learning how to weld. I feel its alot of fun. But i like working on the old cars more than the newer. I lust like the sense of history on the car.

SPR
01-21-2009, 06:26 PM
you welded that anntenna hole up right?

Otherwise everything looks good!!
Body work is the best part! love that stuff! i cant stand greasy motor work lol

Ya the antena hole i welded up.

But see i like both body work and grease engine work. Nothin like getting your hands dirty and seeing what you can creat with your hands.

SPR
01-21-2009, 06:36 PM
k good!

body work is where the creation is at. thats when you really make stuf with your hands from scratch. Motor work is just put it together and hope it runs good!

spitfire
01-21-2009, 06:48 PM
Lol, true. but i enjoy both. But once i get done with the fenders ill be making my own floor boards. We have a thing at my school that you can put body lines in a peace of metal so you can make it stronger. That will be fun, thats where the fun of creating comes in.

SPR
01-21-2009, 06:50 PM
awesome!! does sound like fun!

im making my own floorboards for the camaro too. Using old combine metal haha. it works soo slick!

spitfire
01-21-2009, 06:59 PM
ha lol. Hey if it works it works. there will be carpet over it any way so who cares youl never see it.

SPR
01-21-2009, 07:32 PM
Hey metal is metal. its all the same! who cares if its missing some stupid stamp that GM put into it that does nothing what so ever!

post a vid of the dixie horns!! thats the ebay kit right? ive always been interested in its quality lol!

spitfire
01-21-2009, 07:57 PM
no its not the ebay kit. i bought it off of ebay and had it on my cutlass. well the horn on the comet was broken so i put that on there. But now its not huck up any more. im thinking about getting a train horn. im all selling the dixi horn if interested.

SPR
01-21-2009, 07:59 PM
im not interested, but was just curious on the quality of them. I bought a set of air horns off ebay, they were sooo freaking loud. Loved them!

Been a very long time since ive added to this thread. Got alot of updates.

First, i wont be able finish it at school this year. Since im graduating this year, ill be going to the same tech school as an adult student. I get two pluses out of that, the car gets done, and they give me full certification in auto body. I only need 2 1/2 years of that class, two years are gone, only need another 1/2, so i have to pay $1500 for that half year. Its not to bad considering other schools. BUT! back on topic, since i dont have time this school year, ill be towing it home to finish most of the big rust work, like the trunk floor needs to be replaced, same with the floor boards, and i need to fix the steering. You guys remember it being all white and more rusty. well heres alot of pics.

the old hood was rusted,
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0243.jpg

so i got a new one
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0237.jpg

Started to under coat underneith some of the panels.
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0048.jpg

started priming alot of parts,
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0055.jpg
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0054.jpg

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0157.jpg

This is kinda what it looks like now. The rear of the car is all black primer too now, ill take more updated pics on monday or tuesday, depends on when i spray the last coat of primer on.
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p416/91kutlass/comet/DSCF0001-1.jpg

Enjoy, more to come tomorrow.
