wow, you never cease to amaze me, awesome project man. i'd imagine getting a hold of reproduction body parts for this thing is expensive as hell :(

the front reminds me of a fire bird and the rear reminds me of a '65 mustang

BulletsRain
09-27-2008, 09:31 PM
Camaros and Firebirds have always somewhat looked alike.

kendallcschm
09-27-2008, 09:36 PM
ture... very true.... but the firebird is way cooler. lol but the rear end still looks like a stang... how do you explain that?

what color are you going to paint it

texan_idiot25
09-29-2008, 12:27 PM
yes and no. i am starting out with the oldest, worst condition car of everyone else.
Only older then mine by 2 years, but not as old as jabari's Ford F1. Can't speak about rust unless I saw all our cars in person.. CST10 has all sorts of hidden (rust) goodies

Good to see the Camaro getting attention.

kendallcschm
09-30-2008, 09:51 AM
ok i was wrong... how do you clean rust off car parts????

imstock
09-30-2008, 10:59 AM
ok i was wrong... how do you clean rust off car parts????

By sandblasting them...

kendallcschm
10-08-2008, 09:30 PM
buy new engine parts that aren't rusted lol but you should sand blast the ones that aren't that bad :-P you gunna get any performance upgrades?

Q-Jet carb?

kendallcschm
10-11-2008, 09:44 AM
you dont like carburetors? fuel injection would be nice

texan_idiot25
10-11-2008, 12:34 PM
to be honest, i know nothing about carbs, and i refuse to learn about them. cant stand carbs. cant wait for the day i can go fuel injection.
When the world falls out and the only thing left are non electronic machines, give me a call, I'll still be driving my CST10.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/CST10/Chevyy024.jpg
If it looks like mine, it's the Rochester 4BBL Quadrajet, one of the best stock carbs to use. Even good fuel economy if you set it up right. Run around on the tiny primaries, and then set the linkage to open the massive 2ndaries at 1/2-3/4 throttle.

No reason to hate carbs, when properly tuned they can be just as efficient as EFI.

you dont like carburetors? Oh no, he secretly loves them.

kendallcschm
10-11-2008, 03:27 PM
lol i like carbs in old cars and i hate EFI in old cars because it ruins the old coolness lol

texan_idiot25
10-12-2008, 02:01 PM
30 mpg on ethenol, is that /gallon of gas in the ethanol mix, or /gallon of fuel. Because with ethanol, MPG goes down. If you did a three-deuce setup you could have MPG and when the foot gets happy, full thottle powah!

I like both, but for very different reasons. I just like the god-awful simplicity of a Carburetted system, the fact that when something goes wrong I don't have to go through a technological maze (Like I have had with the Firebird) to find the problem, and it's fixable with some hand tools. And when properly tuned a good carb will perform as well as EFI, just that it isn't self learning and adjusting as EFI is. That, and on older cars it most often times leaves a cleaner look under the hood.

On a more day-to-day performance stand point, EFI all the way, no arguments about it. It does start on the 1st try  And of course the tuning aspect is crazy...

I'd happily take your carb and hi-rise intake if I were closer :p

texan_idiot25
10-12-2008, 06:59 PM
just to make sure no one gets this confused. im not knocking carbs in anyway. they are great, and can be just as functional as FI, but just my personal taste, carbs are not my style. FI is more advance, and has more possibilitys, and i like that more. safer for running turbo, more reliable, better tuning. just my style.
Different strokes for different folks, it's all good.

But 30 mpg with an old school chevy small block? That I want to see. Then I can have hopes for the CST10

Wouldn't argue that with an LS motor though, and a nice 6 speed. :p

It's a waste if you spend it on Fall Out Boy too!

What are the dimensions of the LED kit, and how much? And where did ya get them.. I'd wonder if it's the same guys who sell the LED kits for my truck.

texan_idiot25
10-26-2008, 12:25 AM
Musclerodz yes! He's a vendor over at 67-72chevytrucks.com. From what I hear it's a quality piece.

KITT222
11-09-2008, 06:47 PM
too bad about the accident. to try to prevent your trunk rusting out, try drilling a hole in the spot where the most water collects(providing you can), or you could cover it up with a tarp.

KITT222

But for the update. Texan this is mostly for you.

I wired up my tail lights. These things are amazingly bright!! like seriously 4x brighter than the stock bulbs, they are awesome! My wiring in my car is all freaking messed up though, so they werent working right totally, and i didnt want to deal with it in the dark, but i hooked them up enough to atleast know they work, and holly cow. thats all i have to say lol. You'll love every minute of them!
Right on! Good to see Musclerodz pull through.

So, 'splain this accident.

texan_idiot25

it was raining really hard one day and i was ontop of a tower and slipped and fell. and not like casually collapsed, like feet straight up in the air and slamming down on to my elbow first which cracked it a little bit, and then the curve of the top of the tower and the way i hit it with my back hurt my back, mainly just pulled the muscles and banged and bruised it up some. no serious damage, jsut stiff and sore. hurst to bend and twist and stuff.
"I stand on really tall buildings in the rain, of course I don't need health insurance!"

amiright?

xmodkidd33
11-13-2008, 07:32 PM
Sounds like a fun job. :D Do you guys use ladders to get up the towers or what?

By the way, SPR, do you have AIM/MSN?

So heres an update on the tail lights. I wired htem in. they are amazing. The only down side right now is my flasher is shot. and i havnt installed the new one. So the turn signals act all funny right now and dont work right. But the taillights/brake lights look sweet!

pretty cool but your flasher isnt messed up.
your cars signal relay can't be triggered by the low draw of LED lamps so your car is telling itself that the lmaps are burnt out.

there's three ways you can fix this.
1. buy an LED flasher unit.
2. buy an LED load resistor
3. wire an inline 1157 bulb and paint it black..............then hide the **** out of it..

if you're a broke genius like me, you go for option 3.
if you have money, go with one of the first two, prefferably #1.

looks like a good project though.
now lets see some bodywork;)

texan_idiot25

i actually sold em, got offered twice what i paid for them (which wasnt much) so i let them go. Since they were not what i wanted anyways.

ill be ordering my wheels very last. 17" american racing. similar style to the cragar SS's. but i want to make sure everything else has the money to be finished before i blow $1500 bucks in wheels and tires.
Please don't get Torque Thrust II's...

Over used and boring now. Like Flowmasters (which ironicalyl don't flow that well)

The 17" rally wheels from wheel vintiques look excellent as well, and much less common

TTO's are the **** and have been around forever. True to the 60s car.

dccracing
02-12-2009, 07:45 PM
oh absolutely. you have to use the true wheels! i must say, the camaro was the absolute best muscle car of its era. lol. and that is coming from a ford guy who really doesn't like muscle cars much... actually, ill be a rebal and say im more of a fiat guy...

suicide_star
02-12-2009, 09:49 PM
quit hatin on my wheels boi =P i like the TTD's, but to each his own. i also like 20" TT knockoffs and irocs. nice going so far, you feel like you been robbed after buying all that dynamat?

texan_idiot25
02-12-2009, 10:07 PM
So, your going to rip off the dynomat you bought, and attempt to send it back, and buy cheap crap off ebay?

Dynomat is $$$ for a reason.

ling427ttvette
02-12-2009, 10:54 PM
Tex, those wheels are just as common and popular as the TTII's, but it's for a reason. They look awesome. I had TTII's on my Camaro, LOVED the way they looked.. everyone has them, but I didn't care. They made me happy.

SPR, If you really want to spend big money get some Fikse's:

http://www.candgmotorsports.com/images/fikse_fm5.gif

They make me happy in the pants, but they cost tons of money.

You do plan to lower the car, right? Give that heavy pig a nice suspension setup and make her handle as well as the looks.

I want to know what kind of job you have to be able to afford all this at what, aren't you 22 years old?

It's definitely looking good, and I want to see some pictures in the sun ASAP.

ling427ttvette
02-14-2009, 05:04 PM
Well, for $1600 I got 17 x 8 Eagle 211's (same thing as a TTII but cheaper)

And BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDWS's in a 245/45ZR17... those tires made my car handle amazingly just with a simple wheel swap.

I suggest a staggered offset of wheels, 8" wide in the front, 10-11" wide in the back. I'm drooling already.

spitfire
05-18-2009, 07:01 AM
**** that looks good, That cool realy looks good on that car.

TheB1GDude
05-18-2009, 12:27 PM
Looks badass man... although your pictures are a little on the large size :)

Are you going to do anything about the fender or just leave it as is for the moment??

texan_idiot25
05-18-2009, 04:36 PM
Heat gun and a careful bit of hammering should help it back. Repop sucks though.

firebird999
05-19-2009, 08:09 AM
just outta curiosity, how much did the chrome fender flares alone cost? i've always wondered that.

texan_idiot25
05-20-2009, 04:53 PM
Ignore Firebird's spam posts. He doesn't really give a rat's *** about the cost of the fender trim.
