No more monster truck wheels. My 7x15 wheels came a few days ago, but I have yet to buy tires. Did some other good stuff, and learned a few things, like I suck at cars.

Copied from CRX Community Post:

Long time, not alot done. Been at me mum's house lately, and thus, nothing been done to me rex. But today, we jacked it up, put the shocks/springs on (twice..), and put it back together. The AGX/GC combo rides nice. A BIG diffrence from stock w/Ebay Springs. Feels firmer (Stock fronts, AGX/GC rears) even with the shocks set to '2'. But then something bad happened...

I was turning and heard a couple of thumps. I thought I had left some tools in the back and got out to secure the items. Look were the shocks are, and WHAM! I'm screwed. The little retaining thing KYB supplies slip through the Bump Stop and the bushing in the top hat, and the suspension dropped. It was clunking all the way home.

So, raise it up, remove the UCA bolts, and the strut-to-chassis bolts, and pull it out. Including time spent on the phone, watching my neighbor's cat climb a tree (pictured), and jacking up the car, it only took about half an hour to pull it all out. Haven't put it together again, because it's dark and I'm prone to screwing up (more) since I'm tired.

More good news, my wheels came! The White Rota Slips look sweet, and I can dump the Monster Truck wheels. 2mro I go tire shopping once the car is put together and my brother has been to the dentist (he's getting braces, loser..). Any recomendations?

Here are the pictures, since none of you read anyways. Hope PB doesn't take forever loading them..

Old rims... Dunno. Craigs List, maybe..

Do a hub-swap. Not that rediculously expensive, just don't see the point...

What's with the cat?

I like those rims. Very nice.

Neighbor's cat (read!) kept coming by, he came by when I posted the pictures and meowed outside of our door. Nice little guy.

Rims cost me $520.... But, yah, they're nice. Bet you won't see them in white that much..

Is ur family a Honda family??By the way nice Hondas.

Nope. We're strickly Chevy.

what happened to your muffler it looks like it is going to fall off

It's fine. Not going anywhere. Don't like the piping, but it has a nice sound.

#1 Comcast is an evil succubus in houston. Cable is irrelevant.
#2 Cheap DSL at my dads. Even then, multiple pictures of the same crap is not helping
#3 his car has 17s right now and it lifts his car higher off the ground

Meh, stupid Florida rain. Got the rear end together again (Third time now..), and it rides great. Shocks are set on two (four settings), and it's 250ft/lb springs in the rear. Started on the front end, as soon as I'm about to pull the shock, it starts raining. Have to pull the lights out from under the car (it's dark), and be done for the night..

BIG, it somewhat kills my connection as well, but this computer runs slower and slower every day...

The 17's on the car now are HUGE. They're heavy too (17lbs vs. 10.3lbs..), and don't look that great. And the car had to ride high.

ok that civic is ***.... honda is that way :-)

Sure, you're entitled to your opinion, just please keep it out of my Honda-Oriented thread. Thanks.

EDIT: Cleaned up. Cat's are gone, redundancy is mostly gone, less crap pictures, Civic's (well, one) is gone.

i love those rims man, nice choice, they'll look great against the stock white paint and won't look so ricey. did those eibach springs come with the coilovers? because i have the same set of coilovers and they came with some generic red springs that ride like crap. anyways, goodjob, its gonna wind up being a sweet rex

Thanks. The white on white looks good, I'll see if I can find a picture of a similar set-up. The springs/coilovers are Ground Controls. It's Eibach's distributer for thier race springs on a really nice perch. Got a full set for $285 (shipped), less than OE and lower spings..

I'll edit Kitty in later.

The Stock Shocks w/Ebay Coilovers had no bump stops, so it HURT when it bottomed out. So, I went to Honda and ordered new ones ($75, Expensive. Nothing's better than OEM though). Dropped them on. Only thing original is a couple of bushings, the bolts, and the top hats.

A new set of bushings would really tighten that car up. Goob, or goog? Mayb Moog, from what I've read they make among the best poly bushings. Just grease them like mad when installing and they'll stay quiet.

Dig the white wheels too.

Eh, the rear end already feels tight. If I ever tear the suspension out again (Front is a PITA!), I'm painting everything and going spherical. But at that point it's gonna be a rear disk brake swap (and trailing arm swap) and shiny LCA's going in. But, I don't have money (or time, needs to be done in a few hours) to change anything more.

White wheels are sweet.

Now she'll start to look good and JDM...which is a bit weird since your swedish...

Dun want JDM look. I like the clean look. This is the JDM (expensive) look...http://passwordjdm.com/Images/Gallery/Stan_Ben/Index.html

It's also expensive. Fog lights in the above link run like $300, front end is like $1200, rims are like $1700 (new)... The above rims are Spoon SW388's, which are basically re-painted Desmond Regamaster Evo's...

Woot! Double post! Not really...

Wheels aren't on the car (it's raining...), but will be on 2mro morning, and then it's alignment time... Here's some 'mock-up' pictures though, and I'll get real ones 2mro.... The sidewalls are a tad big, didn't think about it until the tires were on there. Tire size is 205/50/15... One size smaller on the width (can't find smaller on the sidewalls), and the sidewalls would be smaller. But whatever, more width = more traction, right? And I need lots to put the monster horsepower this thing makes. Lol.

They're okay, but the wheels where heavy (noticable!) and I didn't like the black. Old tires were almost down to the wear bars and really sucked. And it was time for some change....

yeah i did too. black lip spoiler would go well with this

I thought about it, but don't have the pocket to do it.
Next big thing is either a intricate alarm or new hood/fenders....
I'm thinking normal white fenders and a black hood...
And then a black vynil on the roof for the panda look..

those rims make your car look sooooo much better. i don't know if it's the inner ricer in me speaking, but i think a CF hood of some sort would look sick on your car....though it looks pretty badass as is.

No, it's real life. I'm too broke for a $600 CF Hood, so a *used* black or white hood and *used* white fenders will have to do... The car in the below picture is EXPENSIVE.... $600 Hood, $350+ Fog Lights, $700+ Rims, $500+ tires, lip, fenders, upkeep, all that. But one of the cleanest. I was aiming for it, but with white wheels I'm going in a diffrent dirrection. Panda Time!

You can grab a set of amber fogs online cheap. Wont be true JDM, but with a few tweaks you can make them look nice. You seem to know what you doing though, so I will simply say I cant wait to watch the progress.

Side note: why dont you just paint the hood and roof black yourself?

jut paint your roof black and save up for a black hood(paint-not carbon cuz really...are you really gonna need carbon fiber? imean you're not doing serious racing in your crx. if you were tho, then you'd need carbon)

Not like those, not in the right size and so on. He has real Stanely Fogs (Rare as Hell, easier to find a Mugen Kit...)...

And I suck. And I'm broke...

Current hood has a 4 inch by 2 inch gash in one side, and I suck at painting. And if I cover the roof in some black vynil material, it isn't permanent... Carbon Fiber looks good though..

EDIT:
Wheel are on, I'm considering lowering it for a slightly lower ride height.. Probably won't lower it more than 2cm though, more pictures later. Looks good!

If you didn't notice, the reply to this was edited in the above post before, but it's moved here now, so that you see it...

So far....
Ground Control Springs/Sleeves
KYB AGX Shocks
Rota Slipstream Wheels
Yokohama S.Drive Tires
Rice Can Muffler
Ebay Short Ram Intake
Si Black Seats
Shift Knob
Interior Neon/LED's
Black Floor Matts
JDM Rear Seat

Here's more pictures. Back of the car is about ~1cm higher than the front, becuase I don't want rub and it looks good. If the front rubs alot, I'll raise that a tad bit as well. But looks good. The wide tires are wonderful, after these pictures are posted, it's gonna go get aligned... Lots of pictures. Hope you like them. I like them.

I need to cut the trim inside the fender and roll the front fenders, or it will touch on some drops (there's like 2 foot drop in a 5 foot stretch were I drive everyday, can't avoid it), and that's not good.

Just got it aligned too. More picture tonight and this weekend..

Stock is perpendicular to the car... Gustav? This was outisde in the last little tropical storm we had last week...

Funny thing is, the car feels alot faster and like it takes off faster... My AC went out on wednesday afternoon. Blowing ice cold air in the morning too...

Thanks. There's a few things it's missing to be really clean, but it's not far from it...

The muffler has been sagging down some, might fix it, might just snatch a full stock exhust instead. Gonna have to take a trip to a few junk yards soon..

Muffler is bleh, got used to it for a wbile...

Doesn't rub. It's fairly stiff too. It has 350lb springs and the KYB AGX's are set to 4 (1-4, 4 is stiffest), but I think the rear end could be a bit stiff, and possibly the front.

Haven't experienced any rub what so ever.

That's new school/rice.
What I have is old school, pre-tuning Era.
Pretty much part of what started the entire craze, if the CRX never existed, Tuning would not be the same. I have a big can on it, doesn't look as good...

Well for one they stopped making the exhust.. I've hear a few, it's nice. Looks like the Mugen kit too... It's either that one or custom with the tips flaring down, like the old school VW's do...

Nope. I want the muffler were it is originally, and then dual pipes coming out. I like the whole OEM look to it, and the more sleeper the better. Like when I turbo a car, the Intercooler will be painted black to blend in. The above isn't as cool..

That kit is sweet, dont get tips down though, It makes the CRX and civics and stuff look like electric cars...

Get a nice (small) shotgun style tip thats not to big and looks OEM and clean.

And keep the muffler where it was stock. otherwise depending on what you got under there its probabably going to sit to low to the ground...

More work and backwards work. AC Went out, it was the Condensor Fan (thanks Suicide). Brakes went out the other day, so we just turned it in to get fixed. Female friend of mine dented the **** out of my fender, but she doesn't want to admit to it. Oh, well. Here's some shots of the damage, the engine bay, my hair, and the interior.

Oh, and SS, it has two fans, as shown, on a full size radiator...

Thanks. I've seen cleaner for not alot more money, but it's getting there. I thought about going turbo with this car, but for the price of the build, I could be rolling a nice Nitrous Set-Up and have money left for other things...

Turbo Build (Make Believe):
$250 -- Intercooler
$150 -- Piping
$500 -- T3/T4 Turbo
$350 -- Mini-Ram Manifold
$300 -- Fuel Pump, Injectors
$450 -- Tuning Products
$600 -- Pistons/Rods
$150 -- Cam Shaft
$350 -- Exhust

That turbo build would hold 250hp+, be tuned good and right, and would cost about $3100. It's a bit high, but I have room to grow on there. Not it does not include the clutch or the proper engine (D16Z6/Y8). Or a good transmission...

Nitrous Build (Make Believe):
$600 -- Nitrous Kit
$600 -- Pistons/Rods
$150 -- Cam Shaft
$300 -- Exhust
$500 -- Tuning

$2200 for a ~200hp+ Nitrous set-up might seem slightly overkill, but the engine (who's price isn't factored in) would be reliable and last. Then there is also bottle re-fills, but I wouldn't be spraying all the time. Just every once in a while. Not completely correct, but I'm lazy right now...

I think it can...

And the Jackson Supercharger only produces like 180hp to the wheels. Nitrous will produce 200hp+ at the wheels and not have the parasitic drag or cut gas milage. And I like it more. Instant torque.

So, I'm on Christmas break. Doesn't look like I'll have any free time, so I don't know when I'll get all this done. It's gone by a long haul. Was gonna do the Fog Lights this morning, but couldn't, so that's 2mro morning.. Then depending on Money, light show starts on Friday... But here's the current to-do list for the car:

Paint Muffler Silencer
Coat Cundercariage
CRX Logo Light-Up
iPod Mount
Rear Cargo Cover
Panda-fy Roof
Fix Squeaky Hatch
Seal Roof Leak
Interior and Exterior Lighting

The last thing on the list is the biggest project. I'm planning on putting LED light strips on the sides of the seats, small neon bars in the front, neon bars bellow the dash, LED Dome lights (blue), white lights in the Rear View Mirror (shinning down), for the Gauge Cluster lights (in blue or white, not sure), behind the climate control, and in the glove box...

All the wiring for that should prove plenty fun. Updates to come through the next two weeks.

Fellow Honda brethen speaking...

If you say you aren't good with cars that much. Why would you waste your time trying to light the inside of it up and make it like your going to the dance floor or something. Keep it clean, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a car.

Fix those leaks. Fix the things that bother you the most. Dont ruin a good looking CRX just for it to look "cool"

Save some of that money from the lighting and all that, just keep saving and get you a later model LS motor,a CRV motor pair it with a good trannt and that car will be a whole alot better. Like the guy on here THE EDJ says I don't care if your car looks good. Mine is faster!

No money. It depends what I do for college. I might do a small Turbo Set-Up that puts down ~200hp to the wheels in the future, but I don't know. Cost wise, the Nitrous is about $1000 cheaper at the same power level, but it's way out in the future....

It's not gonna be super-duper bright, just enough to light the interior so I can see. I'm not into rice-tastic stuff (even if my sigs says...), but the interior will come out clean..

I'm pretty decent with Soldering and Electronics. Easy and cheap ($40 will do lights for the entire car, but I'm not that cheap), and it looks good. And there's virtually no lighting inside the car.....

4x 10" LED Strip = $40
4x 12" Neon Bar = $40
50x Assorted Blue/White LED's = $25

And that would be plenty bright and cover it. But it'll be done in stages.

For the motor, I'll Mini-Me it in the future and wait for the engine to go out. I'm swapping the Tranny to a Si trim one before anything, cause the bearings are going out already....

*Not a Double Post*

So, today I got the Fog Lights in. Five bolts where frozen, torch got them loose. Then I had fun cutting away at the bumper to get the light to fit, 2mro I go get sheet styrene to put behind the lights. Bumper didn't want to go back on at all, and that took some force to do, and wiring didn't want to go together, but it all came together in the end. Looks pretty good too!

More updates in the next few days, see the list above for what to expect.

I'm really liking the white wheels.

Instead of going the turbo way, I'd say ITB's are the way to go. Sure, they're hella expensive, but you're getting great HP/$ and you would be pretty sure to gain some respect in the non-ricer community.

Thanks... I really like how these wheels have a bit of a lip on them.

I've been thinking about going with a Direct Port Nitrous set up, possibly on ITB's... But then I got accepted to University of Florida (Holy Crap Batman) and now I'm not sure about anything... They don't make ITB's for this car, so people custom make them. After the cost for the actual TB's and the injectors, it's fairly cheap to make. Just a bit of fabrication and it's done...

Tuning on the other hand isn't all that easy.... And then if I went ITB/Nitrous, this car would haul ***... But engine swaps first..

Lol, it's been done. I like the FWD and light set-up, and the scream of a Honda motor at high RPM....

Nope, but I'll post pictures of what come later today...

I like the sound. It's not raspy at all, really nice. And the look has grown on me a bit.... And I'm broke. Real broke. I'll get a pic of what I spent my $50 on... Oh, and I need to find another $50 for the Against Me!/Flogging Molly Concert on Friday...

Do you know how much a set of new ITB's for the D16 are? They cost $1600, plus the software needed to tune them, and parts to get it running right. Adds up to around $2000 when bought... Built, costs around $500 for the ITB's by themselves.. And it's not that much performance...

Please tell me how I'm gonna turbo the ITB's?

Motor I have is a D15B7...
K20 = Hella expensive. It's good $6,000 to swap one in...
And they make aftermarket ITB's most Honda motors, problem is they all cost around $1600...

Only a D15 huh? That's just a wee little engine. Have you looked into a B16 or B18 swap? They're still expensive (look to spend around 2000-2500 for a motor), but that little car would fly. I've priced it out a couple times for my own CRX (it needs a new engine...), but I just don't have the money...

B16 = No Torque.
B18 = Too much money.

For the cost of either swap, I could have a D16 Vtec engine in, with either Turbo or Nitrous pushing 250hp...

i think 250hp with a d16 turbo sounds great.
nitrous...well, you'll run out eventually and after several years, you'll have spent quite a bit more than on a turbo setup. and also, the nitrous can seriously damage you engine from overstressing and overheating if the nitrous is injected for too long. a turbo doesn't need to worry about it

I'll probably go with Nitrous, but college seems to want to come a year early, but looking into running either safely, it's about the same cost for parts/tuning. I'm planning on partly stipping the car out. I mean 250whp in a 1900lb car isn't bad...

But any kind of power is way off in the future. Might order a header next week though. And do the exhuast. I'm thinking of doing it Twin Loop.

You can't run a stock D16A6 on more than about 6-7 pounds of boost and still maintain some form of durability. The bottom end of that engine isn't that strong; unless you swap out pistons and rods you are gonna have issues... but I guess you said you are looking at the D16 V-TEC, which runs a higher stock compression ratio... and because it's V-TEC you are going to need electronic boost control and engine management. Which isn't really cheap.

I've got most of a turbo kit for a D16A6 sitting in my living room (my wife is pretty excited about that...), and it's all mechanical stuff, you don't need an electronic boost controller or anything like that, it's pretty simple actually. So far I've got about $1200 into it. I figure I can make about 190 hp on 6 pounds of boost which would still rock the socks off a stock K20.

Yes, ITB's are quite expensive, but they're well worth it, and much more reliable than a turbo and much simpler, because you don't need to tool with boost, etc.

Reliable and Simpler, dunno. Turbo can be built reliable. I've seen plenty of cars running Turbo's for years and years just fine. ITB's can have tuning issues and for the price, you might as well spray...

7psi on what?
The bottom end will hold ~230hp. Nitrous or Boost. The A6 has the best block of any of the D16's. Rods will snap at about 230hp, pistons go next. Head is good for 350hp... If I went turbo, I would go with the Vitara/TT set-up. Can be built for under $400...

If I built a D16, it would be a Z6, with the Vitara/TunerToys rod combo, that would be safe for 400whp. Proper engine/fuel management, like Ectune/Neptune/Turboedit/Chrome and build it properly. No HF/STD manifold, I would buy a cast manifold off ebay or possibly a cheap log, and later upgrade to a Mini-Ram....

I would be shooting for 300hp or so, custom built kit, with a stealthy intercooler. Don't want it apparent. 3" piping from the turbo back, 3" Hotside to the IC, 2.5" coldside.

I would probably spend like $2000 at the end of the day, but still pretty good. Used or cheap turbo, ebay FMIC, custom IC piping, muffler shop exhuast.... I've been spending alot of time on D-Series and TurboD16 looking into the Turbo idea. But 190hp just is too low to justify a turbo set-up. I would just get some mild bolts ons and spray a 75 shot. That would easily pull on your turbo set-up. :P

You do have to worry about the same problems with a turbo... Naturally it's doing the same job, slamming more air and fuel into the combustion chamber... Stay on the boost too long and the motor will blow just the same as it would if you sprayed too much.

the boost can be run continuously as opposed to short bursts that nitrous uses. the turbo WILL blow your engine if you run too high of a pressure, but where's the reason in that?

Not too high pressure. You can run 30psi on a 14G out of a DSM or run 30psi on a diesel turbo. It's about the CFM and the rated horsepower. The 14G will spool faster than a larger turbo...

Turbo's blow becuase people use ****ty FMU's or don't get a tune. They run lean or rich, either one is bad. Or the pressure inside is too big, too much power. Weakest link is the rods in a D16.

Nitrous you can melt a piston/valve because of the high heat. You can get MUCH more instant power (TORQUE!!) from Nitrous than you do from a Turbo car. Big difference. Nitrous will kill an engine when lean via detonation, or if rich, blow by will kill the rings. Then there's heat where you can melt pistons and valves....

Either has it's own pro's/con's, and it's own problems, but it's not that big differences in the problems you run into..

UPDATE:
Car doesn't start.
Solution, buy a Chevy.

Few things to check.

1) Put a volt meter to the battery before you start charging and post what it's at.

2) Attempt to jump start

3) If jump started, drive around for about 10 minutes. This will save you for later.

4) Put it on a slow charge over night and make sure the battery is topped off.

5) Put the volt meter back on, and turn on a high draw item, like the head lights. Now, sit back and watch your voltage. If the battery is good, you should not see it drop much at all. If the battery is bad, you'll see start to drop voltage rather fast, if your watching anything under 12.5 with in a few minutes, this is a good sign the battery is going out.

6) If the battery tests good, check and make sure no circuits are drawing power while the key is off. Amp, radio, just anything you've added.

7) If that's not the problem, and you have further starter problems, carry a hammer and give the starter a good ol' love tap or two if it refuses to crank over, and replace starter.

suicide_star
03-23-2009, 06:21 PM
if it's clicking then your battery or connections are bad...check the connections to make sure that they're clean and making good contact...your amp may well be pulling it down, my friend's 08 STI wouldn't want to start every morning until he disconnected his amp, weird stuff.

Since I move to college in a week, this thing needs to be able to make 500 mile long trips repeadedly and reliably. To fix the small (but annoying) radiator leak, we picked up a new radiator, hoses, and thermostat. The valve cover leaks around the spark plugs, so oil gets down there and it doesn't start sometimes. So new spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and new distributor rotor for good ridance. And it's oil change time.

I'm absolutely screwed. I leave for a week-long Alaska trip that I don't have time for tomorrow morning. The car is in pieces and the radiator is just barely in. Nothing else is done. I'm begging my dad to put the car together for me over the weekend while I'm gone, or I'll never leave in time to move in before classes start on the 29th.

But here's some pictures of the parts and todays (despressingly little) progress.

Not really an update, but I'll have a real and proper update tonight, and several the next few weeks.

So, if/when I buy new rims and tires, here's what I plan on getting. ATS Classics, which are pretty popular with the VW crowd. I would get them in size 13x8" with a ET of about 20, I think. Car would sit 3/4" of an inch lower, plus the extra 3" or so I can lower the body after that. So, the car would pretty much be on the ground. I would be going from/to:

205/15/15 Yokohama S.Drives (23.1" x 8.4")
215/50/13 Sumitomo HTR 200 (21.6" x 8.6")

http://users.telenet.be/johanbae/images/ats/ats_classic.gif

Now, I'm not changing rims/tires anytime soon. These rims are kinda hard to find, and from looking on ebay, they're like $800, plus $200 in tires, plus mounting, balancing, and a alignment. So $1200 for new wheels/tires is kinda out of budget atm.. Would rather spend it on an alarm or quick release, or interior stuff.

Speaking of interior stuff, I'm gonna be re-wrapping the headliner next week. Just gotta barrow a sowing maching and buy some carpet. Gonna roll my fenders in the rear tomorrow afternoon (via PVC Pipe) and paint some tidbits in the engine bay.

Car was estimated to be ready today. Turns out not to be. Body work is almost done, fenders are getting rolled on Tuesday-ish, and car should be done like Friday next week. Went to look at it, snapped some pictures off it.

I'm truly happy I went with Century Auto Body. If you're in South Florida, check these guys out. They're not pushy like some places, all sales man like. Greg's a cool dude, seems like someone interested in painting and body work becuase he likes cars and likes doing it, not for the money. He really seems like he wants to do what's best (and within budget) for the car, the paint, and long term quality.

Anyways, onto some pictures.

looking good! is there any way you can tuck that muffler a little further in? Doesn't look very OEM sticking out like that, or maybe its just the angle of the photo. Regardless, I love your car, I only wish mine could have turned out as well.

The muffler is getting cut off and have like a regular oval-muffler welded on with a shiny tip, or I'll just order a complete exhaust from ebay. Both come out to like $100...

Hooray! It's White! Wait... What?

Glad the dents are gone now

My girlfriend told me there's a small little dent on the rear quarter panel.
I almost cried when she said that.

the car looks great though,i can't argue with that.
i just wish it had a better looking owner....say....me for example... :bigwink:

lol, okay.
Chicks digg my mohawk.

Hmm, wonder why I haven't noticed this thread earlier. This lil guy is the ONLY FF car I tip my hat to- tiny, light, and pretty good looking. Good work guys.

Some random pictures.
Changed the muffler/tip, stripped the rear interior, added some Legos.
Pictures where taken at the Florida CRX Meet today.

There's no noticable difference apart from the look/sound.
I did however lose like 4mpg's going from a short ram intake back to stock.

yeap stock intakes suck :)

New pipe does look pretty good.... definitely fits the flow of the car.
