well not best member exactly, but i was thinking we could have one of those polls that some other forums have, maybe the first could be now and then it's an annual thing. if you don't know what i mean here are some of the categories they use most:
most active member
funniest member
most changed (for the better)
most changed (for the worse)
strictest mod
meanest mod
mosty annoying member
member who you'd feel the most comfortable to meet for dinner


well you get the idea. (we could drop the negative ones if you want)

oh yeah, the way it works is we nominate people for each category (normally 20-50 categories) and the first 5 nominees get entered in a poll to decide. no prize, but maybe you could change the winners' member titles? if not we could put it in our sig.

The whole idea behind this is part popularity contest, part flame war. If you could reevaluate your categories with a more productive overtone, it might be a decent unofficial poll. There are morality issues with moderators giving users custom "forum idiot" titles based upon a vote.

A more realistic approach would include something like: Most helpful member, best painter, best model conversions, etc. etc.

I mean, how would you feel if we nominated you for "Dumbest forum ideas" category?

I am happy to entertain the idea providing that a decent set of categories can be determined, we can not allow any *bad* categories to be in the list as not everyone takes a joke in the same way but if you can define a well though out list I am happy for the site to have a few unofficial polls with the reward being a custom title for a month indicating what you did well.....

Personally I think some of those categories are a little vague to be able to make a poll and vote on it....

Also I have some questions for you:

1. Where would you want these threads to appear in the forum? Off Topic?
2. Who would be responsible for gathering the data for the polls? firebird999?
3. Who would create the threads / polls? firebird999?
4. Would you want any sort of moderation on these or could people post pretty much whatever they want in them?
5. How would you judge for example who has the best topic title? Obviously we don't want people creating rude or stupid topic titles just to get in the comp?

I'm sure I have more so will add them as I think of them....

That's a pretty good list. Maybe instead of enginuitive you could replace it with creative. And Best member to ask questions could be labeled most helpful member. Try to simplify it for custom title's sake.
