too much sand no.. light sand maybe

how about this http://www.target.com/Radlines-RC-Speed-Racing-Motor/dp/B000UGSVU0/sr=1-2/qid=1215743984/ref=sr_1_2/602-2560602-2674235?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Aradline&page=1, and by the way how do u keep the tires from rubing the shell?

nitemeer
07-10-2008, 10:43 PM
that motor i have right now is pretty good.. i guess.. good enough for light off road.. to go off road you might want a servo but very slow lol. try to extend the axle to avoid rubbing shell/body

that motor in store, is on clearance i believe.. which i paid half price for it 2 days ago.

i have no clue on that to be honest.. lego tires are best choice for me :D lol

edit: you have to cut the motor mound part to fit the Radline motor in

this is my evo car off roader.. just a sample.. has a Radline Modified Motor (thats the name of the motor you linked)

go buy lego tires in store :D as in giant ones pick one box of legos.. and then mod the tire to fit your car :) like i do lol and the super charger... just a bigger gear lol

uhh.. maybe later... for torque, its better than stage 2... for speed i'm not sure about it.. its faster the stage 1 thats all i know but with the tire and the weight right now... it isn't so fast like this.. lol

do irocks work good in sand and offroad? will they fit on stock titan wheels?

supraboi97
07-11-2008, 02:35 PM
I'm not sure about the whole sand thing but for off roading i would say the aoshima's. They get pretty good traction and don't look rediculously big compared to the body but it should get traction on sand too. Not sure though.

no clue.. i never tried any other tires besides lego tires always lol

and the problem is.. the motor would not support heavier tires that well.. lol :D you probably want a servo if your getting a giant heavy tires...

Look for Mini-Baja tires.

If you are taking a car offroad your best bet would get some of the stock truck tires. The hummer/f150/titan tires are going to look the least ridiculous. On any account you are going to be doing some serious bodylift or serious wheel-well shaving.

Awhile back I built an offroad baja bug. I used the Revell Rpmz treaded tires on it, and they worked out really well.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k6/thesurgeongeneral/100_1878.jpg

They are the same size as the drag slicks on Texan's F-bomb, so in theory if you are using a Camaro or mustang you won't have to do to much shaving.

nitemeer
07-11-2008, 02:54 PM
that looks pretty nice.. the stock tires from trucks can't do much off roading though.. i tried it :)

heres the video.. just wait.. since i just uploaded.. has a few off roading and on roading.. battery was nearly dead.. so performance isn't at best right now.

i actually have no clue which kit was it.. but it was from a Racer kit which was about 1-2 years ago.. had to shave the rim.. and then super glue an Xmod Rim on it.

mytitan
07-11-2008, 09:47 PM
how are the tires pushed forward like that mine stick back so you cant steer good, and how do you extend the axles?

nitemeer
07-11-2008, 09:51 PM
i didn't really extend the axle and i don't really get what you mean lol

mytitan
07-11-2008, 10:08 PM
my tires are closer back to the board than yours, yours look extended forwords

nitemeer
07-11-2008, 10:10 PM
yea i extended it a little.. not using super glue 2 axles though.

how did you extend it? is it bad if my tires are hard ruber.

nitemeer
07-11-2008, 10:24 PM

you know when theres 2 bearings, put them at the bottom and leave the top empty.. then cap it with the somewhat called disc brakes.

nitemeer
07-11-2008, 10:37 PM
off road kit tires can't do much though lol i have them... maybe for a few rocks thats not bulky can handle.. but for others.. not really, off road kit tires can't go in sand at all

nitemeer

Motor, bearing, and AWD is probably the thing you would want the most and some good tires for off road. just don't double post...

madcat303
07-19-2008, 11:47 PM
go find some micro t baja, or raminator tires, youll be left with the mounting though, i made a tutoriol so it wont be so hard :P, as far as motors, the super charger will have almost no torge, it only has speed, so dont waste my money on that:mad:

nitemeer
07-20-2008, 12:16 AM
lol i tried a homemade supercharger... speed... well seems fast.. not sure... but has no power at all.. can't even move on carpet lol.. my gear was a 15T from Radline motor kit thingy... don't bother getting supercharger for sure.. just get a good torque motor.

mytitan
07-20-2008, 05:46 PM
madcat, are u talking about the lego tire tutoriol?

You need good, grippy tires, but you also need treads to grab good on the loose stuff. No slicks. To keep it looking scale, I would go with Micro-T Monster tires, somehow mounted to xmod wheels. The Monster Tires should also preform pretty well.

Motor, I would go Lithium and get something with higher winds than stock, then gear it lower. The more winds will allow you to gear it lower, becuase you have more torque. This allows the lithiums and the motor to run cooler, increasing the life span. For off-road fun, it needs to be able to acclerate quick and go fast.

AWD is a must. I lock the rear disc and possibly run a LSD up front, tightened down pretty good. If they make One-Way diffs, or you have the tools to may your own, that might work well as well.

Shocks. I would go for greased stock shocks (thick silicone grease should work), then make some kind of shock-sock out of like a small balloon or something. It's a pain when you just have springs, because you can't control the compression/rebound and it just bounces. I would go for some heavy grease, but it has to allow the shock to move.

If it's in your budget, you could try shortening a pair of Micro-T Shocks (Atomic) and changing the mounting points of the tops on the chassis. Good dampening, good shocks, and lots of spring options.

It's motor, btw.

mytitan

im on a budget build, so i think ill go with stage 2 and torque gearing, micro monster truck tires and maybe the hard spring in the stering and suspension kit an awd and lift the body, and the chassie if i can.

nitemeer
07-20-2008, 06:21 PM
stage 2 is not good for torque.. i would go with Radline motors.. those are cheap and have good torque for budget builders.

Talk to RedSXmodder, and see if he is till doing motor building. He can probably work out a good motor deal for the price of the radline motors. You can make more torque with a bearing can and carbon brushes.

Personally, I would drop some Neo mags in a Stage 1 Can and call it a day. Lemme know if you need some for a good price, I think I have a set somewere.

im on a budget build, so i think ill go with stage 2 and torque gearing, micro monster truck tires and maybe the hard spring in the stering and suspension kit an awd and lift the body, and the chassie if i can.

Stick with the Stage 1 motor, they have more winds, and more torque. But you can play with the gearing. The MC-T MT tires work well. You may want to try greasing the stock shocks, and making a shock-sock. Shouldn't cost more than $10 to do so.

You want to lift the chassis, more-so make more suspension travel, so don't get the drop kit. You may also wanna work out the top mounting part of the knuckle, and possibly mod it to be double wishbone instead of strut-type. If you are creative, you can probably do this with Micro-T parts for less than $20, possibly less than $10.

Just remember that you don't want to sacrafice down travel. You want uptravel and downtravel (droop) in the suspension. You can do some research on other forums on how much is good, but atleast a couple of mm's of droop when it's at ride height.

To check droop, put the car together completely, then push all four corners all the way down and compress it. Then let it go. This gives you the ride height. Then lift the car, all four corners and equal amount to were the tires are just barely touching the ground. This will tell you the droop distance. Checking suspension travel is easy. Just becuase the body bottoms out, doesn't mean you can't have more uptravel. The car will roll, and if it one side can't drop down more (the droop) the tires will start to lift.

Also, you don't want it too stiff or it will ride super rough and can sacrafice traction, but you don't want it too soft, or energy will be wasted as the wheel travels up and down over every pit or bump. You have to play with the springs and find a good setting.

I wouldn't lift the body anymore than it needs to to clear the tires. If you play with the strut mounting point (top part of the knuckle), you can also fix the camber to a certain point, but that's pretty advanced stuff. Instead of raising the body (and a large part of the COG), I would shave the inside were it would rub, and make a Color0-Impreza style front lip to protect the body. I'll dig up a link to his thread in a bit if you need it. But raising the COG isn't good. It produces more body roll and will negatively impact the handling. It can help if you are trying to drift though, as the extra body roll can help break the wheels loose, but if you have too much traction, you may end up traction rolling.

I'm gonna make a write up on suspension tommarrow, so there will be more info. But that's the basics.

most truck body won't really fit a car.. and most likely the tires/wheel will rub againist the body or the chassis if the tires are too big.
