Well this is kind of a budget build since ive build this rig with what i had at home so dont expect too much.

Overall its a Rockcrawler torsion chassis(people into large scale crawling know what i mean) anyways i'll give you guys some picture so you can see what it is actually.

It's real simple. Just a plastic pieces that bolt the 2 axles together wich flexes for articulation.

Ground clearance aint that bad either with this setup. :D

articulation *note: this is how much it can actually articulate without any additional weight so im pretty much amaze!

http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p184/quam3900/IMG_0669.jpg

So yeah its not near done yet, the transmission shafts are still real weak.

Hope u guys like it, you dont see a weird xmod chassis like this very often!

Wow. very cool. gen1 rockcrawler, yet you have some evo parts on it. lol. What body is going to be on it? What motor is in it for now. Electronics?(servo, board etc.) Keep us updated. Can't wait for the final product

Thx!
Lol Yeah the evo motor craddle...Its not permanent i might go with some kind of tamiya gearbox tho so the 180 motor on it is not perm either.

I have no idea yet for the elctronic but i'll stick with a 4AAA battery setup with an hs-55 servo.

The esc will all depend on what i cana ctually get since i have no actual working ep atm.

EDIT: sorry i forgot about the body. Im not sure yet probably a jeep or wtv is gonna past throught my mind ;)

That's cool!

I'd mount the plastic piece in the middle, instead of off-center. That just seems more normal to me, lol. I'm not sure if it effects function, though...

Very creative so far, can't wait to see more. :D

Very creative !!!!

I've been working on a rock crawler too. Gen.1 parts can be used alot, for different situations, such as this one.

Good work.

how are you gonna set up the steering?
hs-55 sounds good, but what mechanism?
just wondering

Is it sturdy with just one bar down the middle? Or are you gonna make like and aluminum tub like chassis to hold everything from the motor and EP and servo? This is gonna turn out great imo.

kungpow420

the bar going down the middle is a torsion bar it is meant to twist instead of using shocks or leafs torsion chassis were first used on clods.

I'll order these instead.

that might do the job.

I've also added weight to the wheels by putting sand in them. Helps for articulation.

for your steering issue you could drop the servo on to the top of the diff and have one bar that conects the tires so their strait then one going from one sides knuckle up to the servo ive seen it done many times in rock crawlers of bigger scale, ill look and see if i can find a pic of this set up for you

edit: on a second look it might be hard to do this set up seeing the way the knuckles are, you might beable to get away with it if you flip the knukles so that the eyelit faces out toward the front then try the above

noturday
06-24-2008, 01:32 PM
wow that body does sit high, i think if i were you i'd mount the L-shaped parts that attach to the body on the underside of that sheet metal plate. it would lower it quite a bit

on second look it seems like the motor might get in the way of the body though....hmmm, tricky situation. im sure you'll get it the way you want it tho

Not really. Wire another servo up. Play with the POT and motor wires so it will turn in reverse with out confusing the EP. Steering FETs could be burn, but... stacking them... would solve it.

Plus you can say "I have stacked steering FETs, take that!"

For the body... maybe cut the interior, and raise the floor up, al'la xmodification style to give room, and keep the interior.

As would the rest of the electronics get in the way. I suspect he has the body sitting so high so he can mount the electronics easily. Otherwise, where is he going to put his ESC, Receiver, ETC in such a small package?

This looks really neat with a body on it. Can't wait to see what you can come up with for the end product! :bigwink:

Yes, I know there are ways, but with a Jeep body there really isn't too much room to work with since the whole interior and trunk is wide open. Unless he makes a tool box and stuff to shove it into, I see very little room. Plus, I don't believe he would want to mount anything on his cross-brace or on his axles because that would be obvious and look awkward.

I'm shocked at the size of your wheel base. That's quite the stretch from front tire to rear tire. About how long is the whole RC and about how long is the wheel base?

What ESC do you plan on going with? If I were you, I'd try to find something that's an ESC and receiver all in one to reduce the size; something like the MicroT ESC/Receiver (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB0803).

ling427ttvette
07-09-2008, 07:15 PM
You really need to find a way to mount the front and rear axles as a chassis better. I don't see that holding up very well. Maybe it will, but it doesn't look like it.

I'm really digging this so far though.

It's looking really good. Are you planning on getting a bigger body for it??

GearHeadV8
07-10-2008, 11:30 AM
hey you should attempt it to go 4WS lol just use 2 front ends and link the 2 servos together

snowboi1289
07-10-2008, 01:06 PM
I think that'll be to difficult to drive.

amorton94
07-10-2008, 01:57 PM
that would be difficult to drive, unless you messed around with the remote and made it so you only need one steering wheel insted of two

snowboi1289
07-10-2008, 02:17 PM
You just put the servo on backwards, so it controls the reverse way. Say you turn left, it will turn right. You make one reverse, and the other normal..

Donziikid
08-08-2008, 06:39 PM
Are you sanding/scruffing up the metal before you try to glue the piece to it? Stupid question, I know, but it's so simple and sometimes forgotten. It seems as if your metal is very, very shiny with very little abrasions. Hit it with some sandpaper to give it something to stick to. Just a thought.

This is turning out very nicely! Good work and glad to see you got a piece of metal instead of plastic holding everything. :D

I didn't, It was a threaded shaft so i figured out i could screw it in with an additional drop of jb-weld. But i guess it got loosen up.

And yeah i've been looking around my house for a month just to found out that wonderful piece of metal

Started an offroad course But as you can see, I still need alot of rocks.

Go pick up a bag of Quick-Creet from Lowes or Home Depot. I saw an add in both of their papers today for a 80lb bag for $5. Can't beat that, and for some small rocks/offroad course, you cannot go wrong. ;)

And if it turns out bad and you don't like it, it was only $5.
