"White Trash Beautiful, Trailer Park Queen"
-Everlast

And so begins my xms muscle car entry, a 1966 Buick Wildcat. And before you claim Buick had no muscle, try a 401ci V8 pushing the oh-so underrated 340hp with a 4 speed manual tranny.

Not to mention a body so long you could land a 747 on the deck lid.

as you can guess from the title, this ain't going to be a shiney polished up show queen. Nope. Like half the stuff I've done, I just don't care for shiney paint.... Flat green Camaro. Flat black '56 Nomad. The silver on the S10 was pretty flat too.

So, in keeping with that, and also putting a so far, polar opposite on the trend for building cars, we shall have a Trailer Park Special! I'm talking sun-faded paint, mixed-matched wheels, missing head lights, cracked windshield, and primer sportin' American Muscle... Sorta like my '90 Firebird in some ways... lol.

And so we have it, the start of the 1966 "Trailer Park Special" Buick Wildcat.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel005.jpg

And I did mention how large this car is:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel002.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel004.jpg
:eyecraz:

So, I started on working on the mounts. Thanks to the fact that this model dates back to the older days of models, it's a really simple, beefy model. The whole chassis is molded as one piece, so the body mounts with posts. Thanks to this, I just cut off where the body mounts to the chassis up front, and then glue it to the posts, and I've got a solid front mount right off the bat.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel008.jpg

A redneck Muscle Car would not be complete with out some contraption sticking out of the hood. So, here's how it went.

1st, I pulled the blower off a HEMI engine I had laying around:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel007.jpg

Then I cut all the intake runners from the Buick's Hillborn Injection intake, so I have a mounting spot for the blower:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel006.jpg

Then glued the blower to the base of the hillborn piece, and thus I have the blower rigged up. Once I get some paint on the motor, I'll mess with getting the original blower pully assembly on too:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel015.jpg
I would say a blown 401ci Buick motor would be a fun *** ride.

In keeping with details, I can't have a nice windshield now can I?
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel011.jpg

Pondering if I could toss on the WILDCAT decals for extra cool points, but may leave them off
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/buickmodel013.jpg

And this is where it sits at the moment. These arent the final set of wheels and such, just have the car set up for mockup. Gonna need like 5 chassis spacers for this too.

Lmao, I like the way it looks with those wheels.
I may just have to go get a Wildcat model and a set of those rims, I have something badass in mind.
Can anyone say heavy duty, steel-plated, all out nuclear war-ready?

I think it could do without the decals, unless of course they were all faded according to the paint, and such. Maybe have a chunk of it missing on one side.

texan_idiot25

That's the idea, fade the decals. Just trying to think of a way to fade them with out ripping the water slide.

The paint will be faded though lol

I don't want to wait years for it to fade just to have a paint fade job

Allright, so I got the sucker painted yesterday, gotta sand down and throw a few more coats on later. Got the body mostly mounted, wheels done, stance right, bullet holes done, and gotta figure how to cut the interior and engine to fit....

It's Chuggin' along, pics this weekend

You can't fade paint like this out in the sun over a few days... I've had the primer panel that I painted, in the cold, back in November on the Firebird and it looks as fresh as the day I layed it down. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/IMG_5858.jpg?t=1214229667 Rustoleum all the way!

Good work so far. The paint is still looking a little to fresh, but the rear dent is a nice touch.

Still gotta ways to go. The hood and top fenders are up next to be faded. Then gotta go buy primer and do up some ish.

Don't forget, it needs to look like bumper stickers are holding it together. Maybe also a bungee cable holding the hood down.

how about a warped trunk? or a duct taped window?
that'd really add to the effect
nice dent
how did you put the black stuff in it?

are you going to try to bend in the bullet hole a bit? cuz it looks like a normal drilled hole right now.

rusty chrome on the list?

xmodkidd33

Some Bondo or something like that on a fender? Looks awesome so far!

Thanks

Ran into it with another scale 1960s car of course. Black paint was the culprit

06-26-2008, 02:09 PM
like the dent, thats usually wheren they were since the body was so long. try making a "keyed" look on it, really trailer parkish, maybe some paintball spots or eggs... a website that makes replicas of junkyard cars...

http://junkyardjewels.com/pics/1_18_scale_custom_diecast_joe_dirt_1969_dodge_dayt ona_real__2.jpg

just some ideas, and maybe not go with those rims, something more basic, and old looking.

texan_idiot25
06-26-2008, 04:04 PM
That's a nifty site, gave some ideas.

As for the wheels, what's more basic and old then the Chevy Rally wheels? With a litte work, they now fit the bill.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/IMG_5901.jpg
Also 'weathered' Both bumpers and put a dent in the front one, and dirtied up the car some. Just some absolutely ****ty pics ATM, still working on the car and don't feel like piecing it together to a mock-up shot.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/IMG_5893.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/buick%20wildcat/IMG_5888.jpg
Ignore any texture that looks off in the pics, it's just the paint to make it look dirty...

Making a car look beat up is becoming more involved then making one look good... lol

Nicely done. The keyed passenger side and bent front bumper corner really set it off. Oh, and the duct tape holding the trunk shut. Classic! Or is it keeping the bumper from falling off? :)

That looks really good and has some really cool details if you ever do another rusted style model you could look into this rust kit for models.
The whole kit is like 20 dollars but it looks pretty cool and looks great.

I still say to try some kind of rust holes and Bondo on one of the rear quarter panels, above the wheel wells.

It's done! Here's 3 pics of it near-finished, gotta take it out today and take pics out side. Only difference between these and the car now is the bumper is glued on, lights (not real working, sadly couldn't easily do that right now), and some other little details.

I was going to, but my printer is FUBAR so that was a no-go. Later on I want to really finish this in painting all the details (logos, all trim, such and such) and light it up, and I'll do that in. Sadly I drilled the fake lights of the model out, only to find I didn't have all the headlight lenses from other models like I thought, so it's just a white painted piece of plastic for now lol

1966 Buick Wildcat, "Trailer Park Special". 401ci V8 producing an underrated 340HP through a set of dual-quad carbs. Muscle. Going Fast with Class, is a Buick's motto... except this old queen.

Mod list:
Extended chassis
Custom Tires
Camaro rims, "weathered"
Moded front suspension for more lift
Buick Wildcat body, rednecked to hell and back again.

Details about the body:
Weathered all around, including FADED paint, dirty tires, oily rims, and a car that hasn't seen a car wash since Reagen was President.
Dent on the rear driver's side fender, and paint swappin' marks
Bent front bumper, missing headlight with wires pokin' out
Cracked windshield
Keyed on the passenger side, ****ed off drunk maybe?
Etched in window sill for the driver's side windows
Bent Hood
Duct taped deck lid, is it holding the lid down or the Bumper on?
Trashbag and duct tape passenger window.

Good news chil'd'ns.

With in the next day or so, the Buick will be featured on Jalopnik!!! (http://jalopnik.com/) For the ill-informed, Jalopnik is just about the most bad *** car news/blog site. "Obsessed with the cult of cars" and it always provides the much more interesting side of the car culture.

And we all love El Caminos over there too. :p
