thanks tex, yes its long but if you look at the real ones that use this type of boom, they are long when they are low and shorter when it is lifted
mounting the motors is whats giving me hell now

Looks really cool so far, I can't wait to see it completed!
As far as the friend and the toilet seat, I don't want to know that story. :D

Remind me of a Larry the Cable guy skit.
Coming along great. What color do you have planned for both the truck and the boom? I'd assume just black for the boom, but it probably wouldn't look bad in red with black rivets. :)
Keep us posted!

at the moment no paint plans, but i would probably do the boom black, maybe silver, but i dont know, open for suggestions, i need to find or make some sort of gear box for the winch, my method of direct drive doesnt work so good
but heres what i got as of this moment

Looks like your off to a good start! But isnt the back winch thingy sitting a little high? Cut down the bed rails, so it's lower. The tow trucks around me have a lower bed, and some silver plating with those diamonds on them.
Heres what I mean by cutting the bed rails.

Sorry if it makes little or no sense, I had a 10K run about 15 min ago.

that is the new style trucks, im shotting for the older style

the new style uses a lot of hydrolics, they make tiny ones, but not cheep, and the pump is very big then you add the fluid tanks, thios system is much simpler to make

it will be cool if i can get the right gear box, the truck itself is nothing special, just a F-150 primered

as long as i hold the button down it will pull stuff but not lift it up, thats why im looking for a small gear box

You might want to go for a worm and wheel gearbox if you can get one that size.
