Hi all,

Following up on my competition post here is a little more information on my off road r1g:

It started off life as this model:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/bfad_1.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2973.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2974.jpg

A 1:28 scale model of a rig (slightly smaller that then size used by coolcar25th), I did some playing around with trying to get XTruck parts to fit and ended up with this:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2981.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2978.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2979.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2977.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2976.jpg

Now unfortunately due to the smaller scale model it just wasn't possible to get a decent look, the XTruck stuff was just to big:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2985.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2986.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2984.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2982.jpg

So this was when I decided to mix up the scale and use the SSMT rims and tires:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2993.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2992.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF2987.jpg

This was a look I was much happier with!

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3041.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3040.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3448.jpg

After all who else has an off roading rig! Also decided to throw in my first HS-55 servo conversion:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3451.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3443.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3420.jpg

Also knew I wanted lith power so I had my man BLT456 hook me up with a set of his custom Li-Ions:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3441.jpg

Then I set to work on cutting my AWD shaft down to size and shaping it so that I could put a 4WD kit into the rear axles:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3444.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3427.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3429.jpg

So what I had now was a pretty mean chassis but still a bone stock cab! So that got sent to Bondo for some custom paint work:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3517.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3518.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3519.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3520.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3521.jpg

The flame job is just bad ***! He also did the custom grill work for me!

Whilst Bondo was working on the paint I went about putting my custom CLL kits together, there are two of them:

One is on the back of the cab, it has 4 lights, 2 blue, 1 orange, 1 red, all 4 are always on but the blue light up more when you go forwards and the orange and red light up more in reverse so you get a really cool neon look and feel on the chassis:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3526.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3434.jpg

The other powers the front lights but unfortunately isn't currently fully functional, you have 4 headlights, all white, then 4 more lights across the top, two red and two orange but currently only the front ones work:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3435.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3525.jpg

This added lots and lots of wires to the interior of the cab:

Here are few more mixed shots:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3419.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3428.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/xmods/images/cars/b1gr1g/DSCF3445.jpg

and I hope you all enjoyed my project thread!

Thanks!

know what would be cooler! a hobby grade esc/receiver from a mini-t, and make a it all hobby electronics but still xmod chassis parts.

Cheers man! Thats why I like the reversible rear axle! When I'm bored of it being a crawler I can just turn it around and be on my way!

I've been working on it for months and there is still lots more that I could do, this might be something that happens only it will be a Z board that goes in to it!

cool, hey for more speed can't you do a dual motor with the axle by reversing on motors rotation?

I guess if I took out the 4WD kit I could power the wheels independently with 2 motors, the only worry then would be the draw on the stock board, I might have to upgrade the FET's to get it working....

yea.but it would be a fast rig.

Next time I'm bored and there is a big comp I'll re-enter it with dual motors :)

Thanks although in all fairness the chassis wasnt that difficult to make from the model and a few xtrucks.... all the hard work was done by bondo and his mad paint skills!! :)

BTW I like that 350Z in your sig.... nice paint combo....

My guess is the Ions are in th gas tanks on the side.

Now that would have been cool! But unfortunately the tanks are to small! They are hidden under the hood!
