Yup, i'm going to finally start my project Subbie!
I actually do have plans, but don't want to reveal them all until I've started.
I know for a fact i'm going to paint her Gun Metal, and i'm removing the wing.
I'll keep you all updated, thats if anyones interested in a girls perspective of cars.

But yeah, heres my stock girl:

I'll probably go by price on that xD, but i may just stick with gloss.

I don't see where you see a key scratch. Probably just crappy camera, lol. It's in great condition!

And if your intro thread is any indication this should be a popular project thread. :bigwink:

Is it called "She Wants Revenge" because it is going to be themed after the band, or a pun based upon your gender? On either accord, gun metal is a great color on anything.

Are you gonna do the purple lip rims on it too? Like in the pic you showed me?

firebird999
05-15-2008, 07:49 AM
yes, do flat gun metal. imo yiou should also have metallic dark lime green (this (http://www.zercustoms.com/car-show/albums/userpics/10001/Dodge-Viper-1.jpg)) stripes on the sides, bout a centimeter thick. also have that color rim lips, but keep the rest of the rims black.

Yesssss, that's what i'm going to do. I havent decided if the top of the car is painted black [like panda]. It looks different in different pictures, so i may just keep it gun metal.
Anyone have suggests for the color of the wheels?
I know the real color is Kolor Kandy Pink, but i dont know if i'd be able to get ahold of that.
Also, need suggestions on where to get the front kit.

All you need is a patient hand and an exacto blade. Just trace the front bumper line with the exacto repetitively with medium amounts of pressure and it will come right off. Then glue it to your bumper.

If you want to go with the gift card, trace the original bumper onto the card to make a reference, then draw the additional lip, and cut off the extras. Glue it to the front.

Probably could toss a candy pink onto those, and get the proper color. And some nice depth in the sun light.

But these rims are pretty identical to the real car: http://www.xmodsinternational.com/USA_STORE_FRONT_ZONEZ1RIMS.htm

those rims do look a lot like the ones on the 1:1 car...and the kandy would show up well on them b/c they're already chrome...im actually going to see if iceman has some kandy pink and play with those rims, if they come out like they should that'd be pretty sweet....(i got like a dozen sets of those rims)

i'm going to >>attempt<< to paint them lol...real kandy is a ***** to lay on because it's trasparent and require a bunch of coats to match the color you're looking for, i'm not even sure if it'd be a great idea to spray onto the chrome finish, i probably need to mask off the outsides of the rims that are going to remain chrome, prime the center, spray it metallic silver then start spraying on the kandy. don't rush your project though...take your time, do it right and make it kick ***...god i wish bondo were here to answer my paint questions...

yes, and now it's being set back straight...

well, now with those purple rims being posted, i've lost my appetite for green... it seemed so cool, but now... so anyways, those 20 spokers would be perfect in pink/purple! but i would like to suggest the rims being black with a pink/purple lip, rather than all pink/purple. that would go better with the grey imo.

Try the gift card first. Take off the front bumper of your xmod, and trace the outline onto the gift card, once you have the outline, use an exacto and give it a mm all the way around. From there you can add extra snazz to the front.

Here is a pretty good tutorial with visuals:

Cool, I always wondered if there were any girls that were into xmods, I think we even had a thread about it. Once we thought there was one, but it turned out to be someone pretending to be a girl by putting up pic of his girlfriend for his avatar. But now we know, there's at least one.

Your nail polish might be a good color for your wheels, I don't know how durable it would be though, might chip off.

I can't believe someone quoted me in their sig, that's definitely a first. Ha!

The headlight lenses should be able to come off, if you look at the backside there are melted tabs. Pry them apart with an extacto and the lenses will pop right off. After you paint, push them back through and glue them from the backside using elmers glue.

Whatever you do don't use krazy glue to stick the lense back on - it can fog up the lenses and ruin it easily (happened to me before -lol).

I kinda missed this project due to being so tied up with out stuff - seems pretty interesting and i'm glad to see another girl take a shot at this hobby!

taking the lenses out also prevents from any over spray getting on the inside and messing up the lenses that way. i've done quite a few paint jobs, and i always make sure that all lenses and extra parts that can come off, do come off. i also take the whole body apart and spray each piece individually rather than as one large piece so that i can remove parts later if i want to change them out or something, and it makes it easier to tape off parts you dont want painted

+1 Dont ever use Krazy glue. I used it thinking it would be fine, but it leaked right through the lense and it was ruined. Now I'm stuck with 2 headlight lense-less RSX's... And they stick to your finger instantly, which is usually good. Gives the idea of a strong bond. But if you accidently glue your fingers to the headlight lenses or the body, and remove your finger, it would leave a mark of your finger print:o (need to switch glue brand now...)

So far your projects looks like it's coming along great. As for the pink, the shade on your nail looks good. Scrape off the plastic/glue all the way untill they come out. Be paitent with them. Good luck with the painting!

i make sure that everything that'll come off is off, (including bumpers, wings, mufflers, hoods, etc.)
yeh texan knows what he's talkin' about.
i'll be a much better paintjob that way.
and crazy glue is the worst type of glu for things like this. elmers glue is the way.

light coats of paint! mist the paint. try to resist tempation to do full coverage of paint.(whe i first started, i couldn't resist...now i have a wrecked Evolution 8 bodyshell)
that pink looks good. looks like the subbie is on the right track

What the headlight lenses?

Easy... just scrape away at the glue holding them in place with your X-Knife do it gentle so you don't break the arms of the back of them but it shouldn't take more than a few scrapes to get the glue off and then push the lenses out.

looks pretty good as long as the grey is'nt a gloss...

if you have bubble on the hood then i would suggest to stop, sand it back down and spray it again if you didnt already know.
the bubbles mean there's a lack of adhesion and there is nothing you can do to remedy this short of starting over.
just make sure you sand the parent surface well and use light dust coats.

keep up the good work.

either black or a similar shade to what you have on the wheels.
if it was me though i would eitherpaint the blue and add a matching pinstripe at the door line or paint the whole top half of the car stopping at the door line.
something to ponder, black top half stopped at the door line with a red pinstripe.......wit would tie in the red wheels nicely

BTW, props on the wheels,i've brushed a couple sets and they arent for the impatient.
once you get one done you look down and realize you got three to go.:roll_eye:

It's only panda if the bottom color is white. Dark grey and black is how the real car is, right?

Panda refers to black hood and black bodykit on a white car, as seen on the trueno:

I was taught that panda is the top part black and the bottom white, but ive seen a evo w/ the top red and bottom silver.

It might vary, i dont know.

BUT i'm still unsure.

Did you just use primer and leave it that way? It looks nice, I was thinking of doing a Gunmetal Subbie a lil while back.... funny how when I said it Forum Members were like NO DONT DO IT... >.> lol anyways.

I say grey top, black hood/trunk. The rims look great, dunno what you're going to keep adding, but keep up the good work.

Nope, no primer.

You should still do one though, it looks pretty sweet.

My only issue is that the hood is glossier/shinier then the car itself and the black oversprays. ughh

meh. depends. my gf decided we had to get her an xmod when i was trying to round up parts for mine.

i vote for grey trunk and top. or atleast a grey top, the trunk would look fine in black to match the hood. i think a pink pinstripe down either side would look nice as well. looks really good. keep it up

You can wax the car, which makes it more shiny, and leave the hood unwaxed and see where that gets you. You could also try another coat of clear on the body. As far as the overspray, take the hood off and paint it.

by overspray do you mean there are little black spots of paint on the rest of the paint? do you possibly mean it splatters or something? i've had model paint that splatters really badly before. i thought maybe that was the problem you were having. just a thought.

if you mean that the coat of paint on your car is too thick, then the solution would be to stand back a bit when you spray and obviously nice and even strokes, otherwise you might end up with a thick coa on the tail end of the car, while the under the hodd you can sill see the primer...

yippee

Umm,
The can sprays out too much? lol

ah. i was assuming you weren't actually referring to overspray since you took the hood off and sprayed it seperately. like the poster above me mentioned, you might be too close, or just putting too heavy of coats. maybe a better explaination could help us understand better to give you better suggestions.

meanwhile just make sure you're an appropriate distance away. you want to use light coats and build your way up to a proper thickness. like he said, nice even strokes. it's kind of hard to explain without demonstration. it sounds like it might be something else though so i'll wait to hear back from you

Well the over spray, yeah its just the can.
The car's not primer, it's the actual paint but the gloss is a tad dim - so i need to fix that w/ wax or something.

Plus there's the "girl" thing - you're doing way better than some guys that just got into this hobby as well:bigwink: .

Try taking pics out side without in the shade without the flash - it should help capture the true color (ask Donzi or Tex - they're good at the camera thing  ).

Ideas, suggestions?

dontspamme
06-28-2008, 01:40 AM
For the black paint that dripped onto the rear bumper, I would just suggest taking it off and repainting it. Should be pretty easy. How did you sand the side? For the windows, go over them with a toothpick dipped in black paint. The paint is a bit dull, going for more shine or is that the colour? Other then the flaws, it looks pretty good!

XMODification
06-28-2008, 01:54 AM
yeah - I would take it off and sand it over then paint it by itself - as for th other spot I think you can use a paint brush to cover it up and then use the toothpick like what dontspamme mentioned.

Don't feel bad about it btw - I had that happen to me a few times and I just had to repaint the whole thing 'casue it was pretty bad.

I hope you get it and i'm looking foward ot seeing more.

Well basically I just added suspension, all wheel drive, and tail/head lights. And thanks to my "master electricians" hood scoop lights (haha, yes i'm aware they don't go there - for all you ignorant folks) . Har, the lights (compliments of ss <3) don't work. :/

I've basically long drawn this project out. I'm a little lazy, heh. and with cosmetology ($650+ so far, still have next year) i'm a little erm out of spare cash.

she masked her windows off in a different spot than i did. so when i painted, it left her ruff mask job untouched. i would have resprayed the entire windows to cover that up, but i was out of black, and i had already donated 14 bucks worth of paint to her. plus all my time, mirrors, new body kit, new taillights. etc... i figured she could handle repainting the windows. a sharpie would be sufficient even.

the only flaw i see caused by me is hte front bumper. which i must have missed when i looked it over, or i woulda covered up that black spot in the grey.

also i had a small accident and scratched the crap out of hte finished job on the right rear side. and i didnt have enough grey to sand it all the way down and fix it. so i did a light sand, and sprayed it again. so it got a tad thick there.

i sanded the crap out of her body before i sprayed it and removed all the primer looking grey she had. So please dont call me a noob for her windows.
