Here's what I've been working on lately...a project that took a lot longer than I wanted it to.

I've put in many details and I think it turned out great! Is my masking up to par?

From start to finish:

looking very aweome, man people are good at them tiny pinstripes lining the racing stripe.

You both took it from me

STL, do you have some wide axles laying around? Toss them on all 4 corners, it really helps the look of regular sized xmods wheels on the Camaro body.

But that is on HELL of a paint job! Are the stripes water slides or paint?

SkysTheLimit
04-22-2008, 10:37 PM
Thanks for the compliments! Marshmallow :)

Texan- Yeah actually I do have those wide axles, I put them on before and it looks a lot better. Unfortunately I didn't take the pics (these pics either) with the wide axles. The stripes are slides (thankfully)

This is with the black S281E wheels:

sure, but what i really like is the floor! it's awesomefullifica. looks great for drifting. and if you don't mind me asking, that looks expensive, are you rich?
I like that, very clean. Easy on the eyes. That makes me want to one in a reverse color scheme!

i'm sure you'd be able to, but i'd say ditch the yellow stripes and go with silver. or iof you mean reverse of his, that'd be cool.

Thanks guys! Here are some new pictures. I've bright silver finished the wheels and added a license plate. Some of you will recognize my signature knock-off lugs (some will be up for sale soon)

I'll try to get some of my other stuff up soon, however I haven't done much since this car. I've been around but some stuff had happened a while back here which discouraged me from visiting. But I've decided to give it another chance.

Great PJ, Sky. Looks amazing! I would paint the wheels white/flat black, I think it may look better that way. :bigwink:

Welcome!

Aww, you guys are too nice. Haha

thanks! I'd like to work on some halos for the car, actually I have an amazing plan (I don't know if you've seen my halo ideas before but this one is for headlights)

We'll see if it works but first I have to get the right sized drill bit.

Also I might mount some spinners on the car, see how they look

The paintjob is clean and sexy! Couldn't have picked a better color combo.

However, I think it rear end should be jacked up a bit, to give it that retro, bad-*** dragster look.

Great job, though!

Thanks Red! Haven't talked to you in a while man! I've been thinking about throwing some nice slicks on the back.

Well this new update has got me pretty psyched. I had a bad day today but looking at how these came out makes it a little better.

So here I present to you...real (not a little black-painted LED) angel eye headlights :)

The (I'm assuming) black plastic covering is a little rough and takes away from the look. But, when you're dealing with this small of a scale, it actually came out really well. :bigwink: Good work!

SkysTheLimit
04-24-2008, 10:04 PM
Thanks! It's actually not black plastic, black plastic would probably work better but it would be a pain go get it to fit right. I might have to fix things up a little more but it came out to my satisfaction for now.

They don't look too bad without the light hole. It's basically the hole covered with black. haha, I'll have to get a picture up sometime.

THE EDJ
04-25-2008, 04:43 PM
i like it. meatier tires on the back would be great, it would really compliment the tuck you already got going back there. I think the front end needs to be lowered a little, get some tuck on the front wheels too. The paint is great, really like the look, but you get the stance right and it will look awesome

SkysTheLimit
04-25-2008, 08:44 PM
Thanks EDJ, I do have a couple ideas. I like your idea with the raising the rear and lowering the front, I've got plans for the little chin spoiler (thanks Texan) and also I'm going to try to fit some meatier tires in the rear. I'll work on this a little bit tonight and let you all know how it comes out.

That angel eye headlights really take this car to the next level, it's keep looking better and better, I had this idea before but just never did it, but anyway, keep up the great work!

SkysTheLimit

Thanks! I still am working on the lower front+higher rear+meatier tires but...

It took me a while but I've finally found my styrene, so I cut some of it and shaped it into a chin spoiler. It's not done yet but it's a start:

My lip spoiler is bigger then yours.

Joking aside, it would look better, wider, IMO.

Ol'Rover
05-01-2008, 10:36 PM

The devil is in the details. The car is looking great. I do agree with Texan though on taking the chin spoiler further out towards the corners. I just like the look. I'm not sure how you made yours but I have found they are pretty easy to make by taking two strips of styrene and gluing them together on edge at a 45 degree angle.
Just an idea... Trace the inside radius of the the bumper on sheet styrene so that you end up with a piece of styrene that when cut looks like an oval split down the center. Then take 2 or 3 pieces of strip styrene and glue them down on the straight line side of the half oval piece. Keep a quarter inch or so hanging out over that edge. These will be mounting brackets that sit inside the bottom lip of the factory bumper. You can choose to make the spoiler removable by drilling some pilot holes for screws or glue it. Take a second piece of styrene and cut it into the design you want to be scene on the front of the car with the rear edge straight. Glue that straight edge at what ever angle you like to the bracket piece and now you have a spoiler that can be changed out (if screwed) when you want.
I did this for a Camaro and it worked well for me. It just took a little time before I made the one I liked. Just an idea. It would probably be easier to show then explain but I'm not quite sure where those pictures are.

texan_idiot25
05-02-2008, 12:20 AM
What I had done, is traced the back-edge of the bumper on to paper, and made a template. Used that to make a filler panel under the bumper. Then just played with chin spoiler designs with paper, until I had what I liked, traced to styrene, cut and sanded into a nice shape, and then glued that at an angle to the 1st piece of styrene. 2 pieced, and permanently mounted.

If that doesn't make any sense, pictures tomorrow.

...if you were to add a chin spoiler it would add the effect that your front end was lowerd (if its white and more visible opposed to black) however if you actually do decide to lower the front end this mod might limit you...just something to keep in mind

I finally finished the chin spoiler but:

I thought I'd try some spinners. For those of you who are the original Xmodders (now by original I mean years and years back since they have first come out) you now may remember me as the true first Xmods Spinners creator.

So here they are back again (I'll be selling these made to order soon) mounted on the Camaro. There are many varieties. What I love:

-the spinners look great
-they actually work (unlike some previous prototypes)
-they give the wheel an awesome deep-dish look

For those of you who don't remember me, and for those who don't believe (no offense taken, it's hard to believe that someone actually makes working spinners,) I've made two videos that show me spinning them with my finger. I'll hopefully take more in the future of them with the car running.

SkysTheLimit
05-13-2008, 09:18 PM

maybe he put black hand paint in a circle on the head light lens?

SkysTheLimit
05-16-2008, 07:05 PM
Actually no, the circle wouldn't be so clean and at such angles, it would no longer look an angel eye nor so clean. Unless I had 10 different headlights that I swapped in for each picture.
(Which I assure you I don't)

Good try though :)

Donziikid
05-16-2008, 07:41 PM
Might I suggest outlining the license plate in black or some other color to accent the full white? Right now it just looks like a decal (which I'm sure it is) but it would look more scale if you were to outline it with something. Just my useless $0.02.

I like the paint job. Turned out very nicely; looks killer in white. :)

suicide_star
05-16-2008, 09:46 PM
maybe he put black hand paint in a circle on the head light lens?

it looks like the black paint is actually on the LED, being that the tip of the LED is black, the sides are black and the headlight casing is black it all blends together well...maybe i'm wrong, but nonetheless...it's awesome.

SkysTheLimit
05-24-2008, 05:45 PM
Thanks! I still have work to do with the front and rear but I'm fixing the orange peel issue right now.

Yeah I'll tell you there is nothing modified with the LED nor the lense, it's all in the assembly. More complicated than it looks yet less complicated than you'd think.

The hood came out excellent, and it's Kyosho Gloss Coat-like. I have many of these bodies so I could tell you that it really is that glassy and shiny :)

Here's a picture though pictures don't do it justice:
