I run the stock radio system in my RC18MT and it doesn't glitch a bit. Many will tell you that stock radio systems (AM especially) isn't good when running brushless, but I have experience no glitching, clogging or anything. But, I'm sure I'll experience that sometime.

What would be safest would be to go with some sort of FM radio system or if you have the money, 2.4GHz Spektrum.

Futaba 2PL: $84.99. (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNHS1**&P=SM)
Futaba 3PM: $109.99. (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGAG2**&P=SM)
Airtronics Spread Spectrum MX3: $179.99. (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSGB0&P=SM)
Spektrum DX2.0: $169.99. (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=SPM20200&utm_source=froogle)
Spektrum DX3.0: $249.99. (http://www.southeastrc.com/Items/StdItemView.aspx?lookup=SPM20300&adp=froggle1)

As you can see, FM is quite a bit cheaper than the spread Spectrum/Spektrum radios, but, with price comes quality and reliability. ;)

this might sound dumb but im just getting into hobby grade electronics after having been in xmods for a couple years.

so with the Spektrum DX2.0: $169.99. that will include an radio and reciever?

And if i order the Mamba 5400kv system(motor and ecu) and the spektrum i will have all the electronics i need.

Sorry just a really big noob with this stuff

Everyone starts somewhere, you don't sound dumb. ;)

If you order the Spektrum DX2.0 for $169.99 on HorizonHobby.com, it will include the transmitter and the receiver, as well as two different servos (a Z270 Standard Race and a Z590 Torque Race). If your MiniT already came with a servo and a battery, then you're set to go. Just drop in this radio system and the mamba 25 combo and off you go!

With the Mamba 25 combo you will get both the ESC and the 5400kv motor. But, you could also just buy the ESC or the motor seperatly. So, be careful when making that purchase. ;)

If you have a servo already and a battery already, then you're good to go after you purchase the radio and the mamba system.

Thanks alot Donziikid,
yea there is no servo so im glad one comes with that
ok so the next thungs im purchasing are
Spektrum Dx2.0
Mamba 25 combo

and it comes with a battery pack but its only a 6 or cell nicad so im gonna get some 2 cell li-po packs for it

then replace broken parts as i go

I can bet your differential is going to be the first thing to go. Also, I believe the MiniT uses a 1:18th scale servo (like the Hs-55), the servos' that come with the Spektrum DX2.0, I believe, are 1:10th scale servos; so they wouldn't fit without modification.

I'll let someone who owns a MiniT chime in here. :)

Donziikid is right about the servos. The Mini-T uses a micro servo so the ones that come with the Spektrum won't fit. I'm using a HS-55 (works good, just not the most durable) servo right now, but would recommend something with more torque/speed and metal or karbonite gears.

Here's a couple of good ones....
HS-65HB (http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HS-65HB)
HS-65MG (http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HS-65MG)

You will also need to buy the correct servo saver for whichever one you buy.

I would also definitely check out some FM radios, some others to look into would be the JR radios like XR3 (or XR3i), or a XS3 (or XS3 Pro). Great radios, I'm using the Pro in my Mini-T and it's nice not having to worry about crystals.

If you are planning on going brushless, you definitely should go to either the MIP ball differential (best) or the Losi one. Also if it doesn't have a dual disk slipper, I would recommend that as well.

Some other upgrades I would recommend if it doesn't have them yet would be...

MIP CVDs
Bearings
Titanium turnbuckles

That's all I can think of for now, if you have any questions just ask.

EDIT: Here's mine, if you want to see the radio/parts I have....Link (http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11762)

OK heres what im ordering on friday for my mini-t
-Sidewinder Micro 1:18th Sport Car ESC with CM2054( i think im not sure what model is which as far as the kv rating from looking on the castle creations site)
-spektrum dx2.0
-hs-55 servo(going with this for now since i cant find the correct servo saver for the hs-65 and there seems to be trouble with it reading on one18th.com)
-MIP ball differential
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGZM2&P=M
-Dual disk slipper
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB1131

-MIP Cvds

And the mini-t comes with full bearing set and oil shocks so after i get this order im done for now then alloy will come to make it look pretty lol

Sounds like you're off to a great start :D . A couple of other little things that I forgot to mention which are quite important..............

RPM bumper (http://cgi.ebay.com/Losi-Mini-T-Black-Wide-Front-Bumper-by-RPM_W0QQitemZ350037409510QQihZ022QQcategoryZ44028Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
or
BRP bumper (http://cgi.ebay.com/Losi-Mini-T-Wide-Front-Bumper-by-BRP_W0QQitemZ350039596518QQihZ022QQcategoryZ44028Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQ cmdZViewItem)

I'm using the RPM one, but I'm sure the BRP one adds great protection as well.

Since you are going brushless you may also want to consider

BRP chassis brace (http://cgi.ebay.com/Losi-Mini-T-Blue-Front-Bulkhead-Chassis-Brace-BRP-513_W0QQitemZ250228357571QQihZ015QQcategoryZ44028Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQ cmdZViewItem)

This will help strengthen your chassis and help in the case of any unfortunate crashes ;) .

I wouldn't doubt JR quality, they make very nice rx's and tx's, got one on my 1/10th, so nice, no glitches.
Very user-friendly.:D

To be honest, I wasn't positive if the synthesized receiver would work with the JR XR3i, so I tested my RS310 with my XR3i and found out that it seems to work just fine.

Just to make sure, you do realize you would need the 75 MHz version?

Yes, that's the receiver that comes with that particular radio, so no problem there. Little steep on the price though, I think you can probably find it cheaper considering I got the newer version for $85 shipped (and I'm in Canada) which was actually a superb deal but I would say you can get that one for $90 shipped in the US.

I'm going to send you a PM with a couple places to check out for used RC stuff.

Cheers,

well i got this rolling chassis awhile ago but then ran into to some finacial problems but its back on now, i ordered the Spektrum DX2.0, mamba 8000k brushless system, hs-55 servo and sevo saver.

Now im looking for a li-po pack that i should use for this, im looking for max speed not run times. Also looking for another one that is more for longer run times.

One last thing, hwat gear ratio would i want for this car, looking for more acceleration then top speed.

Sounds cool.

For the gear ratio thing: put the pinion gear on top and the spur gear on bottom. 9/24. Divide the two numbers =0.375 the lower the number means more torque/acceleration, the higher number equals more top speed. So basically you want the lowest number possible for acceleration, but no top speed. on an xmod 8/25 is the most torque/acceleration you can get.Hope this helps.

As for every thing else. I have no idea. i just got into the micro dt not mini t. lol

If yours looking for more acceleration drop down a couple teeth on the gear, id go with a 59T insteat of the stock 60T. 55$ is quite the deal there man, im looking to buy the CF chassis and the cheapest i saw was 50$. Im also looking to buy the mamba micro pro 8000kv. Yours is going to be scary fast with Li-Po and the mamba 8000:nod:
