first off, 56k: YOU'RE SCREWED.
Everyone else has to wait 5 minutes for the page to load :p

:D Transfering everything from my jeep project (started on GSR forums a year ago):

So, i rememberd posting a sneak-peak of this project a while back . . . but now it's starting to move. I've spent the last few months shorting the chasis, building the body, and thinking of how to lower the circut board/battery mount thingy (body is in the way). I've finaly decided to do a stock-height cj7 because:
1) i like stock jeeps (non-hardtop ones)
2) looks weird lifted too high
3) more chalnging chalenges

so far i've made a custom really-short (shorter than the h2) chassis spacer, build half the body, found a working mini-z overland board (mine!!). I am prettymuch going doorless with spare gas cans and a spare tire. im deciding on weather to use the offroad-roll bar or the stock one(pic down the page).
so here's what i have sofar:
spacer comparison (one on left is the custom one)

Update!!! :D
ok, so i got a rolling chassis from my friend yesterday so i got this project really moving now. I instaled the mini-z esc, fitted the front part of the chassis under the hood, and, ummm . .. some other stuff :)
each picture is worth 1000 words <_<

The only problem is the steering is reversed  I've juggle the wires aroun with no luck. Now mr. screwdriver meets the KT-5!

Well, i hope you excuse this double post but, UPDATE:
Luckly i had another mini-z EP laying around (i have a graveyard of an overland, mr-01, and mr-02. dont ask how they got there.) So, i wont mess with the electronics until i need them. I started a custom chassis of some really thick styrene (same stuff as DanielK's), got a perfect-length driveshaft, and hacked away some stuff ^_^

I'm not a very good chassis designer, so I'd really appreciate some help, any pictures/photoshops i will worship you

Ok, i had nothing to do waiting to get my pro-pulse parts in the mail:

http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/9365/jeeproolc2uu4.jpg
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/8921/jeeproolc3sf3.jpg
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/4123/jeeproolc4ee4.jpg
i made a roll cage and made some space in the back of the jeep.

Alrighty, here's an *UPDATE*!

I got the rear of the chassis to connect to the rest using a gen1 motor mount/brace. Now it can flex and have four wheel drive :D . I'm thinking of having a mid-motor so i can get everything under the body.

Here's a video on the chassis: *Click to see very bad discription of chassis* (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNq1_JbjI2E)

And here's some pretty pictures:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/6523/xmdjpchassis1sj2.jpg
http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/5083/xmdjpchassis2tq7.jpg
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1375/xmdjpchassis3ay6.jpg
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/8981/xmdjpchassis4cn1.jpg

In order to get that big mr01 diff gear to fit on the chassis I need to make a hole so it will fit.

Here is a rough idea of what it could look like:
with roll-cage:
http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/7857/xmdjpp1uz1.jpg
http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/6995/xmdjpp2rz1.jpg
no roll-cage:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6841/xmdjpp3xe6.jpg

It still needs tons of work.

I've had some time to work with it yesterday so I got a gear on the driveshaft (hardest part) and now I just need to mount a motor. I'm still deciding weather to use a stock stage1 motor directly on the driveshaft or a HS-55 micro servo. I don't want it to go too slow or too fast, but about avarage.

mounting the stage1 motor wil require cutting a piece out of the chassis and having the motor sticking out of the bottom.

ITS ALIVE!!
...
Well, almost. I finally got the guts to repair my fried board and now I have some electronics! I spent all day yesterday and today repairing, installing, and testing the new PCB. I also mounted the hitec HS-55 servo so it has tons of crawling torque. As a bonus: I fitted it with 5 1/4 aaa cells at 120mah each (5-10 min runtime with the hs-55 drive servo. low amperage ^_^). Some how, I managed to cram all this in minus the fine details (antenna, seats, ect.), which I will get in soon. I have yet to buy some micro-deans and drive it from a distance!
Enjoy thy pictures!!! :D

Please excuse my poor pictures, I was in a hurry because I still have homework to do! :(

The batteries lasted way longer than I expected! With charged batteries, I drove it for 35 mins, with energy to spare! I think I could get 10 more minutes off of it if I kept driving it, and it only takes less than 5 mins to charge! :D Now that I got the vital components in, now I just need to work on the finish.
Here's a video to see how it performs:
Jeep First Runs

Not much of an update, but I got the MR-01 board mounted vertically and the batteries moved. It may look un-realistic now, but when I add the dashboard, the roll cage, and hide the switches and plugs underneath the hood, most people would hardly notice the interior and will be staring at the rest of the truck. Anyway, here are the pics:

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4923/jeep1013fh8.jpg
I'm still working on it...

Wow it's been a long time since I updated this thread.

Anyway, about a month ago I primed the jeep body. Then I just gathered up ideas to improve the chassis (space wise). Today I made a more "roomy" and neat chassis plate out of ABS plastic. It uses a larger gear from a diff. replacement set my dad had (from a Tamiya 4wd Racer?) and a stock mini-z motor for more speed (hopefully 100 times faster), while maintaining torque to get over most obstacles. I then sanded it down, and installed ball-bearings. I'm planning to use a custom saddle pack out of two micro-t/dt batteries (or just one pack if I don't have room).

I'm going to use this styrene scale diamond plate I have on the bottom and sides of the main plate to fill the gap and look more scale.
So, what do you guys think so far?

I made a motor mount and improved the swivel thingy today. Motor mount, again, is made out of old gen1 parts (o so useful :) ). The swivel (gen1 motor mount) I made adjustableby threading a hole I made and putting a screw in it (works better than fixed styrene, and looks cool 8) ). The rest of my time was wasted by making an rc4wd type gear reduction unit, just for fun (evo truck parts).

My apologies for the crappy pics. It's hard to get good lighting inside when it's dark out.

**END OF TRANSFER**

**UPDATE!!! (real one):
I wasn't liking the torque from the 180 motor. I switched back to the servo and took xmodification's advice. It took FOREVER to make/set up a jig to get the servo horn on and drill a larger hole in the pinion. I think the bigger gear was a 48t or 60t and I know the small one is a 12t, so it should go about 4x (or more) faster.
Anyway, here's what I got so far:
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/3019/jeepservo21pz3.jpg
http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/1672/jeepservo22dc5.jpg
I already test-drove it.... it has enough torque and speed to do whatever I want :D There's also enough room to make some sort of interior! http://www.beatyourtruck.com/forum/images/smilies/crazyhf1.gif

Now go crazy.

Nice work on getting everything in place so neatly! Are you going to use those small batteries that you had before? If you do you could raise the board and put them underneath of it - I think it will still leave some sort of room for a mock interior too. Here's a suggestion: maybe you could also cover up the electonics and do the interior like from the dash up (similar to what I did for my covertible camaro and G35)- you might have to glue the door on and then they'll be able to see rthe mock interior through the windows.

I'd say no, it wouldn't fit on a regular truck chassis. The body is too short.

Scale crawling speeds are sub 1mph  Courses might take awhile.

This is a really clean looking install so far, right on CUSTOM. Good to see you still in this ish too.

i say keep them but get some pics of it in better light so that we can see if there is a realistic look to those panels agaist the black, and i cant really tell if its gloss or flat witch is it??? i think that a gloss would go better with the planels imo

I de-bugged the drivetrain with some gen1 parts (as usual), and used a ball bearing in it too to keep things smooth. I guess this means I owe you guys a video. I'll try to get one tonight or tomorrow morning.
