Building a '92 Silverado xmod...got the body out of an old broken model, so i felt like placing it on a Classic XMod Skyline chassi, AWD stage 2 everything. I made a quick video awhile ago of it, Ill postp ics soon too ;)

Welcome to the board. PLEASE post some of you '71 C10. I've got a '69 CST/10 myself :)

The truck looks good. The most I would do is cut that bed out more, so you can lower the body down more and cover the chassis.

Unfortunatly, i cannot lower the body anymore, its as low as it will go, its already streesed to much, the truck body unfortunatly is actually too small. I want to get a C10 model, and drop it on.

ill post some of my 71, we havent started the project yet, the one in my sig is a render that a friend did on the Full Size Chevy Forums...(Lowdown) its one of the plans.

To texan are you a member member here yet?:

maybe you don't need to widen the body, but instead "unwiden" the chasis/wheels could that work?

Ol'Rover
03-02-2008, 05:16 PM
well the only problem is the batteries on the side, is there a way i could move them somewhere? then my body will sit down low....after i cut the rest of the bed out.

*scratch that idea, the batter packs are what keeps the truck body in place*

i dont think the truck body is the right scale, it came off a 1:24 scale USA-1 monster truck model lol... i wonder what would happen if i seperated the cab, from the box.

if the wheels were part of the problem and you made the thinner you could try taking off the battery clip, the thing that hold the batteries in their case, then you maybe put some on instead of the clip (if you want). now your body can fit on the chasis..hope i helped!

Where is it not wide enough? At the bed? The cab should fit nicely over it.

i get a bit more clearence, but i just snapped the rear window support, the Wheels are going to be a problem too...but we have a plastic vacume moulder in my shop class at school, im thinking of using it and makeing a plaster mold of this truck body and adding some fender flares.

the cab is stretched out a bit so i could put it on...it goes on fine. But the steps on the box dont want to snap down over the batteries...ill see what happens when i remove the rest of the bed. i want to drop the whole thing down so it will sit o nthe ground but im having wheel clearence issues too. :(

Ol'Rover

yeah im thinking of doing the same thing as my sig, but a newer truck. Im going ot paint it matt black, or matt olivedrab. Im still having clearence issues...:(

i looked at the model box lastnight, and was very dissapointed when i found out it was actually a 1/32 scale monstertruck body...

made this photo darker to show my box problems, the top left & right corner steps are catching on the battery pack...and the box wont sit low.

Cut out the tailgate and put a wider one it, to expand the rear offset. You could probably make one out of extra xmod box plastic. (if you still have the box). And make fender flares for the front out of the same material.

ill give 'er a shot. thanks :)

Ol'Rover

how do y'all mount your custom body's???

and what is the easiest way to make front fenderflares for my mod?

Surgeon

For mounting, I would glue a straight piece across the tailgate and attach the rear clip to it. Do a little trial and error and test masking to get it right.

Fender flares, I would cut out of scrap plastic and glue them to the body of your truck, and then you can smooth it out with putty. Putty is like bondo for model cars and should be worked about the same.

Ol'Rover
03-04-2008, 07:32 PM
k thanks, but about the mounting...i'm looking to bount the cab at the moment, Cause i hacked the box so i could stretch it out to bring it lower over the rear wheels. so that is out of the picture at the moment.

You might wait on the mounting until you have the bed finished. Without something to secure the rear, the cab will pop off. For a front clip, I always cut a square of plastic and then cut the shape of the clip out of that. You could start on that, but without the bed you won't be able to make it fully secure.

I have seen people use velcroe on the sides on the battery tray and inside of the body, if you get some heavy duty stuff this might be an option to consider.

Ol'Rover
03-04-2008, 08:15 PM
i used that befor, exept i didnt have it on the battery tray, I think i may try that. thanks :)

im doing a plastic molding modual in Design/Manufacturing class next week. so that will give me a chance to work on my truck body in school

thanks for the ideas, you have been a big help. And just wondering where can i pick up some of this "Putty" :-?

Ol'Rover
03-06-2008, 04:21 PM
yeah, so i was testing for front wheel clearence today, makeing sure everything was turning and not getting caught, took it drifting around my room...and had an epic crash! a wheel nut came loose and came off and when i was in the midst of a drift it hit the chair! everything flew apart...i had my camera out so i took pictures

Still not sure what to do about the box, I chopped it on the right side of the tailgate, And placed it on, but since its a stepside theres a hunk of the box that hangs waay out past the cab now, and it dosnt look right. I also have my front fenderflares on and ill post some pictures.

any ideas on what i should do about the box?

thats quite the project you got there. one tip on the wheel nuts to prevent them from coming off you could get the aluminum wheels nuts they come in various colours too. and you can get them off www.ebay.ca umm www.xmodsinternational.com and www.atomicmods.com
