Ok fellows - i'm kinda feeling like a building a custom truck again so i'll be using my GMC CC truck that I was using in one of my other projects for this one. The SSMT project is going to used for a Dodge Ram pickup truck now (SSMT project on hold at the moment also).

I have done alot of work on the body but I have not taken any recent pics so here's a pic of what it should look like:

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r99/xmodification/My%20Misc%20Photos/gmcdcproj.jpg

My paint scheme is still the original idea that I had in mind:

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r99/xmodification/My%20Misc%20Photos/GMC-chevydoublecab.jpg

Updated pics of chassis and body will be posted later today.

I already have a Evo truck chassis with custom front suspension and a custom steering mod done, now I have to work on lenghtening the chassis and making it 4WD with a custom metal drive-shaft. I'll be using a servo motor in the rear but I also have another idea that I might use for the rear motor. Interior for this one might be done but i'm not completely sure of it yet.

Thanks for looking guys and i'll be sure to update this a.s.a.p. :)

Thank dude! it should be easier to work with since i've done numerous x-trucks before, the SSMt was abit of a PITA but I most of the problems worked out already. This one should take too long either - i'll be painting the body sometime today or tomarrow.

Here's a the HS-55 servo modified steering on the chassis that i'll be using:

This is the 1st time i've tried it out since I saw it on the scale4x4 forum - it actually works great but I need to work out a few minor kinks in it (needs a slightly longer "L" steering guide).

More pics to come soon.

That does look very nice.

How's the turning radius? (A video like that of Avant's off MZR would be nice.)

The turning radius is one of the kinks that I need to work on - the "L" steering guide thingy is alittle too short so the radius is kinda similar to the original (except for the suspenion which is 100X better). I think i'll need to make it more like a "<" instead of "L" - that should fix the radius problem and the steering play on it all at once. As for a vid I should have one up as soon as I get the mods done - i'll also have new rims and tires which should raise the chassis height abit more (super swampers plus black custom model rims).

Edit: @ noturday - it was going to be a SSMT truck but I got me a Dodge Ram model the other day and i decide to switch up the plan. SSMT will be continued as soon as I can get to work on it (after this one I guess).

THis is gonna be awsome. That suspension job looks interesting. Definetly will work better than the stock suspension. I noticed you have a spacer or two under the top plate. What is that for exactly? Either way this thing will turn out great. Like all your other projects.

Thanks dude! the spacers are simply there to add alittle more suspension hieght (adds more room for the spring to compress fully).

Ok now i get it. Is it hard to install the Hs 55 servo as a steering mod?
I might have to do a steering mod because my crawler need a mile and 3 hours to turn.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Just a few little updates for now, I had to work on the chassis again since it wasn't turning as much as I wanted it to. Anyways, I made a new "L" steering guide, I added a ball and socket to the steering servo, and I also centered the servo in the middle with a few mods to the top of the chassis.

Here's what it looks like now:

Thanks for all the comments guys! The tires are Ashosima super swampers and the rims are from another truck model.

Well, I finally finshed all the work on the chassis and I also made a few more adjustments to it. The servo motor has been switched out with another one and it's fitted with a bigger spur gear for more speed/torque, all the orange pieces will be painted black later btw.

Thanks dude, the suspension should work even better once I get the body mounted on the chassis. Hopefully I can start the paint works tonight and i'll see how far I could get with that. For now I need to make a new floor for the bed since I had to cut it out to accomodate the servo plus it will also allow it to swivel easier witout rubbing on it.

LOL - I got alot of room for a few more things but I need to finish a few other things before I try to add in all those details. The ride height is exactly what I want it to be - I might have to widen the wheel wells just abit though.

hey X i dont think your doing it right your suppose to drop the bed not raise it hahaha

Thanks guys! The bed is attatched to the cab, because of the servo motor and the ride height I had to raise the bed a few cm in order to have space for the rear to articulate without being obstructed or hitting the bottom of the bed. I'm going for a more realistic look hence the ride hieght - it will be able to articulate more with a custom rear mount that i'll install.

Are you gonna add something over there? Like a mudguard?
It's obviuos that something is going there because on the other side it looks the same in the same spot.
BTW:x its coming along nicely. And how much would you charge to have that kind of work for i.e. me?

The details looks very good, but why you leave this part unpaint?

Thanks guys! That part was just a minor adjustment that i had to make because the wheels kept rubbing when it's turning. I used a dremel sanding bit to sand it down alittle so that it would work better - it'll be painted Brown anyways so it's not a big deal at the moment.:)

I see body holes on the cab.. I predict a light bar. :)

Thanks Donzi, the lights on top was one of the thing that i was working on. i'm not using individual LEDs for this instead i'm just using two LEDs and a piece of clear plastic branch from the model headligh lenses/windshield (the branch is the frame pieces that is disgarded after you cut the model parts off of it). It's was alittle challenging to get right but I think it'll work out nicely once I get the lights powered up.

man it just gets better and better. is that a winch? or is that just for looks. i cant seem to find any more room under that body for another servo.

and were those holes in the blinkers for the (always talked about, but never done) blinker mod? seems like you're just goin all out on this one

are the magnets just to hold the hood closed or do they also keep the horns on either way that is a awsome truck.

Before the bull horns was on the truck, the magnets was there already, so I think that it's just hold the hood tight.

Thanks for all the cool comments guys!!

Ok guys, I was bitten by the Flu bug and I wasn't able to do much due the my condition. Anyhow - the truck is about 90% completed, the only things left are: making another drive shaft (the 1st one is about 2mm short), lock the diffs, make a new antenna, make some rocksliders for it, then the last thing i'll do is cover the chassis underneath alittle more to protect it from dirt and stuff.

Ok enough talking, here's the pics of the truck so far:

I changed my mind on the roof lights and the front park lights also - it was abit too much wires getting in the way. I'll have a short video clip of it in action when i get those other stuff completed.

Thanks for watching guys!

I finally finished this truck - I locked the diffs, covered the underneath, painted the inside of the wheel wells, and I added the rocksliders on it aswell.

Ok guys, I finally was able to upload a decent video - for some reason or the other I can't upload it to my youtube or photobucket account - it been giving me an error message for a couple hours now. Anyways, here's a video of it in loose dirt - I got a kinda long one to upload next but it really shows how capable this truck is on an offroad coarse:

My favorite of all time xmod truck!

Question: Does a longer wheelbase improve into rock crawling or shorter wheelbase???

thanks

thanks dude! I think it did help alittle in the sense that It could have crawled over stuff that was about it's own height without out loosing rear or front traction.

Here's another one that I made - I get to show what's under the hood in this one (almost to the end):

Well I took it for a test run in some mud and it got stuck plus alot of dirt/mud got into through the exposed driveshaft :nodno:. I finally took care of it while I was doing some other minor mods:

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r99/xmodification/New%20Projects%20pics/103_1666.jpg

It's a complete underbody skid plate to protect it from dirt/mud/sand and it will also help it on the rocky coarse (it can slide across stuff instead of getting hung up on bigger rocks).

Here's the last couple of pics of this baby and I think that's it for good :bigwink: :
