Yes, it does break in you motor. And I hear this all over. I never heard of it corroding the motor cause I think you dry it good when done.

water dippin is good for ur motors. run it in the water for about 15 minutes and then what i do is run it in WD-40 for a lil while and that works good

well think what you want iv been playing around with electric engines and i know for a fact water and motors DO NOT MIX

I feel the same way...rumor has it that water dipping is suppose to break in the brushes....all I do is run the motor out of the car full tilt for 45 sec. to a minute and the motor runs great.

Well both of you are rite in some ways,
First of all you don't use reg tap water it will corrode your motor, insted you use distilled water as it dosent have any impurities that will cause corrosion also distilled water wont conduct electricity..... :D :D

What I do to all the electric motors I own. Goto the hobbyshop and buy some electric motorspray. What I do is run my motors in water, then a cup of WD-40, then run it dry, then after an hour, run it in water, then dry it up. Spray the armature with the motor spray. And while at the hobbyshop buy some comm drops and use them on your commutator

what some people do is after they run it in water they drill a holl in it and spray comprest air inside to dry it out and it runs beter then out of the box

Well, you asked me to ask you nicely, and if I had asked it meanly, you would've had an embarrasing avatar instead,

all i have to say is common sense tells you that water+metal=corrosion

That's why you run it in grease afterwards.

The motor runs on magnetism, much like our personalities...
When you are smooth, many want to rub smooth up against you. When you are rough, you cause friction, heat and stress.
A good break in helps to smooth out rough spots and in return, you get a higher revv motor.
The oil also helps to break down arcing between the brush and commutator which helps to keep the (battery) power going to the armature, which in turn keeps the magnetic feild strong.
Changing the magnets over to the NEO type makes the magnetic feild more powerful...even higher revs and torque. Having a motor can with bearings make it smoother...

Well, an old trick I learned was to run motors in alcohol, make sure you have the motor submerged before turning it on and turn it off before you pull it out, otherwise a spark inside the motor can cause a fire. This does two things: seats the brushes and removes all of the other grease grit and grime. Alcohol dries quickly, then add one single drop of 3-N-1 oil or sewing machine oil on the armature shaft at the bearings.

If you saturate yor motor in any kind of oil you're just asking for dirt to collect inside. You want the motor to be dry except where friction can occure, such as the armature shaft. In slot cars we used powdered graphite for all of our gearing, again wet oil draws anything abrasive to it. If you're dead set on using a wet lubercant find a pure silicone oil with PTFE to get the best result, use as little as possible.

WHAT IS THE BENIFIT OF DIPPING YOUR MOTOR? I REALLY DONT KNOW, BUT I WOULD THINK WATER WOULD HURT THE MOTOR.

I was curious about this too. I've played with my motors so much, and thruw them all on the dyno and it's doesn't amke much differance. I found motor greese to use not WD-40 although it will work just make sure not to use too much or you'll have tons a dirt after you race.

I did it with the stock camaro motor after i ran it for a week and it made a big difference. It was smoother, quiter, and most importantly faster

i no u have to use grease afterwards but some ppl think,"ill put this in the water, take it out, and then go use it."
thats why i said water +metal=corrosion
because if u just use water then itll mess it up
