Some of you guys might remember this project. Well i am going to open it up again.
Upgrades:awd, offroad upgrade, lego tires, tamiyma gearbox(new brushes and neo mags), 6 cell, nimh batts, dean plugs, That's all i can think of... fucnitional light bar, articulation mod

Upgrades to come?: bigger lego tires, relocate battery tray, wide body kit, misc. gpm, and lots more...

I got a question for you : I am using 2 after market f150 hoods and an f150 body, what am i going to do?

Cool! How about some glossy paint? And as to your question, IDK.

fieldfairy2
01-20-2008, 11:12 AM
I am thinking of chrome/silver flames on the hood with the rest of the car a glossy black.

Once you guys start getting close to my question i will post a pic or two.

Red metallic would look good

I'd suggest you to make a model body and get some aoshima swampers for better performance and for look also those tires just dosent fit with the chassis IMO.

c1v1c: are these the tires?
These look like the irok's

How big are these in centimeters?

Nice truck. When you get your new lego tires, I want your old ones :) and does the tires rub against the battery tray when you turn? As for those tires, I think they are 13.50mm wide and 35mm tall.

fieldfairy2
01-20-2008, 03:22 PM
Sorry you can't have them. And yes they just BARELY rub the battery tray.(if you force it) Not enough to hurt the performance tho.I might not get new lego tires it depends if i can find any. here is what i have found:
Which are better the super swampers or these:
http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=PRO10002-00/136.1
Are they good for crawling? they are about 4.5 centimeters if my math is correct.

greenday
01-20-2008, 03:27 PM
They are not good for crawling on rocks, as they are hard. (from what I have heard) However they are good for romping around on soft surfaces like mud...:o :o:o

fieldfairy2
01-20-2008, 04:55 PM
Thanks,
I had no luck finding bigger lego tires. I might buy some regular super swampers. The bad thing about the lego tires on it now is that there is to much space between the tire and the rim. I will fix that soon.

Can anybody figure out my question?(located on the first post)

fieldfairy2

roof scoop?
:nodno: Nope, close
note the question said TWO aftermarket hoods.

These aren't iroks. I don't think anyone has them. I was just wondering if they were good

I want something a little bigger than swampers tho. Maybe 4.2-4.8 centimeters

c1v1c
01-20-2008, 07:13 PM
Well they are made from the same brand so technically they are hard as iroks.

And if u want, u can stretch the swampers tires on those slammed rims.

fieldfairy2
01-20-2008, 07:29 PM
I didn't know they were the same as irok's...

Will the super swampers be a little bigger with the slammed rims? if so how much? I need to know if i am going to make any adjustments to the body.

I am thinking of silver/chrome front bumper with flames on the hood with the rest of it black. I still might have to do a lot of body work, depends on if i get bigger tires.

Question : I am using 4 aftermarket sideskirts(not the off road look), what am i doing? (pics when i finish it)

if you mean the whole motor, he is using the Tamiya Universal Gearbox. It gives out hellacious amounts of torque. Its like $9 from Tamiya, Towerhobbies, or HobbyTown USA.

oh, you are making quad exaust tips on each side of the truck, similar to the ones on the side skirts, but on the off road ones.

good idea with the flames.

No you are still wrong. You are on the right track it does involve using the exaust tips.

Update: i am going out to try and find super swampers, but i have gotten to a good point with my second question...(a point in where it is mounted and i can take a pic or two.)

make a custom lite bar? im all outa gessing.

fieldfairy2
01-21-2008, 12:51 PM
Nope still wrong. I will be using a light bar just not using exaust tips. Your first 2 guesses were closer. It is a pain to work with the exaust tips they are too small and don't want to stick, but i have gotten them to stick and it takes time to putty and sand them to the shape you want.

02-09-2008, 04:36 PM
I know this is a double post but i have a good reason. I need this to pop up in the new post section and i have and update.

MAJOR UPDATE:):

I have worked on this project off and on. Due to school i have had little time. But now i have had more time on my hands i have done more.

Upgrades: awd, lift kit, bearings, tamiya universal gearbox, custom front rear clip, neo mags, high performance carbon brushes, homemade locked diffs, wide axels(from race suspension upgrade), super swampers, reduce wheel wobble tut, functional light bar, and 360 degreee articulation Soon to have gpm parts and gears

I have cut the body in half(truck bed/roof-front bumper, for the truck bed to articulate with the rest of the rear. Like texan's s-10). I am working on a custom hood and custom side vents. Because i had widened the rear wheel wells i must fill them up again to make the look stock. My second question i had is my custom hood. I might: stack fets, neons, and steering mod.

Due to the camera not working. Pics will come later along with more details.(tonight or tomorrow morning)

I have been thinking of a steering mod i just don't know how to install it, as in wire it up and make it turn the wheels. I am gonna get my friends truck and do a custom crawler with a servo mod. Well make a custom steering linkage, Have you seen that thread over 4x4scale???
anyways u need some turnbuckles and some ball end. and most of all, an hobby grade micro servo.

I'll try to find the link for you.

Edit: find the thread. But i've seen that you've post in it too...So what you dont get exactly???

THe link helps a bit. I was confused about wiring it. You don't have to take out the other servo do you? I know it will leave some weight but i don't want to take that much of the car apartright now.

fieldfairy2
02-10-2008, 06:47 PM
Small Update

I will probably do a steering mod. Today i have sanded down the body and dremeled a bit to make the wheel wells look even with the tires as well as do some more putty work. Maybe a wide body kit and flip the battery case. Sorry no pics yet.

Edit: and i am probably going to lower it tooo. depends on how much space i have under the body if i do an steering mod and flip the battery case.

c1v1c
02-10-2008, 07:36 PM
I wish you alot of luck, this is gonna be tight. Having a servo plus the battery tray on top might be a little pain in the arse.

But maybe you could try to install the servo underneath the chassis...I might try aswell and comme back to you when I'll test it.

fieldfairy2
02-10-2008, 07:47 PM
I might not flip the battery case because Suicides crawler flips over a lot. And with the gearbox, 6 cell and 360 degree articulation mine flips over quite a bit other wise it is just fine.

Thanks for the comments.

That might be good idea with the servo underneath. I don't know what i am doing yet. I will probably do a steering mod. I just don't want to mess something up and ruin the car.

c1v1c
02-10-2008, 07:55 PM

I won't be able to do much this week because i have school, school clubs, and soccer.I only have the 30 minutes i have before dinner and after school. I have a four day weekend this week so i will be able to mount the body and get the servo.

Update:
THe body is sanded again and look better. Put another layer of putty on so it should be commin along. THe hood is a pain to work with but it is commi along too.

My liscense plate on the truck when i am done is gonna be the one in my sig but shortened to "crwln ovr u"

Update:
I haven't mounted the truck bed because i have the wrong materials. I will get them later.

c1v1c: i have lowered the body about 4mm. I used a combination of suicide's and xmodification's front and rear clips. Thanks guys.

Edit:got my aluminium.(not magnetic, yes) Gonna work on it later. I picked up some radline motors(crazy torque, cant turn car fast enough) for my radline and maybe try the motor in the gearbox.

pics later.

dontspamme
02-17-2008, 01:18 PM
Seems like it's coming along nicely. I cant wait for pics, but only one question. Does the radline motor have more torque then a 180 hyper torque motor? and how's the speed compared to a S2 w/ 8:24? gearing?

xmodkidd33
02-17-2008, 01:19 PM
That's... Great. How long did it take to peice it all together?

fieldfairy2
02-17-2008, 01:58 PM
dontspamme: I can't give you all the details because i don't really know. But i do know that a radline ELITE series has a 20,000 rpm's stock, the motor pack has a 22,000 24,000 and a 26,000 rpm's with varied gears. I know they have way more torque than a s2 with neo mags for sure. I don't have a 180 so ya. I haven't put them in a xmod yet.

Thanks for the comments. Starting tooo mount it as i type(putty is drying)

Xmodkid33: i can't really tell you because i have had school and have been on and off with this project for a while so about 2 months? 3-4 months i have been thinking of a crawler and i got the truck for x-mas in 06 or 07.

fieldfairy2
02-17-2008, 06:20 PM
Update!

I used an aluminium piece and glued it to the truck bed, drilling 2 holes in it. The chassis i used a stock front sus. plate and fliped it upside down then glued it to the wishbone. THen i used 2-56 screws and nuts to get the right ride height. THen rerouted the motor wire to articulate all the way.

I did get a hs 55 for a steering mod but that seems a little too difficult right now. SO i am going out today to get a titan(hint, for servo). Well i mounted the light bar and the truck bed and light work too. THe bed is sanded down where the putty is too. I haven't worked on the hood for a while too.

If the lights are on in the pic, It was moving/crawling at the time. THe incline of the very slippery foam bored was probably 50-70 degrees.

Little update:
I went to radioshack and they were sold out of the titan. Someone bought it before us and it still says in stock online.O well, to the f150:

I made a new mudguard and will be buying stuff online soon. Leds, gmp and replacement front gear box or gpm one. Pics later

Update:
I got the mudguard and i am working on the truck bed. Dremmeled the be down a bit to make it look better. I am letting the putty dry now and will sand it down later. I was bored so i took a pic of my xmods. A f150 body is not in the picture as well as the truck bed and a couple hoods. I have now adobted my brothers nsx and have no pics of it. It is stock, yellow and has normal wear and tear on the bumpers.

Update:
I haven't done much but sanding. Well i tried to make a deep dish rim but it didn't turn out well. I just wound my own armerature! It was my first one. Well it works. It has 43 turns in a stock s1 can. It wasn't too fast but it does have some top end. THere is the start of my winding days.

Looks kool. Kickass! You get very low gear ratios with that motor and gearing setup.

Thanks guys,

as you see in the pics:
1.there seems to orange peel but there really is none, i think it appears like that because of the silver basecoat showing throug

2. there seems to be blue around the windows. that is really not there especially from the bottom 7 pics(the bigger pics.) that is after touch up and the camera brings out the blue.

Update:
no pics as of right now but i do have the tierod holder, front sus. skid plate, and almost the mud guard done. working out the kinks. it is all one piece of aluminium tooo.

thanks,
the one in the back is a crawler motor. The one in the front is for looks.

Little Update:
My original skid plate didn't work so I am making it it no 2 pieces. The first piece is a tierod holder and it works perfectly. The next piece will be a skid plate/mud guard.

Those springs really help. Definatly when you have the tamiya universal gearbox It would tip over like crazy. But with those articulation springs the typing is reduced by 40 percent!!!!lol.

update.
I have my tierod holder done. I made a skid plate till my brother messed it up. Now i am making a new one.

Look at the pics(last update with pics,)

O by the way. I have a hummer coming tomorrow or sat., it is going to be a crawler with the hs-55 and other goodies. (next project) I NEED A OFF ROAD UPGRADE please. That means this project is almost done!! besides some gpm and videos!!!

i will have some videos by the end of this week. I will have a new thread with some test results like: tamiya universal gearbox vs. hs-55, 6 cell w/tamiya vs. 4cell w/tamiya. possible the hs-55 with 6 cell. and more.

all comments welcome!!!
