Howdy,

I'm also the proud owner of an Axial AX10 "Scorpion." I was given the chassis kit as a present for Christmas of '07 and purchased the motor, ESC, receiver and battery with money I've saved up over the years. I've only taken her out a handful of times and have gotten a few short video clips which can be viewed below.

The build time took about nine hours, which I completed all in one day. The body has yet to be painted because of the horrible weather in Michigan, but I'm thinking of a black and silver two tone on the B-17 Better Body.

My Current Setup:
Chassis: Axial AX10.
Motor/ESC: Novak GOAT Crawler.
Servo: HiTec HS-645BB
Transmitter/Receiver: Spektrum DX3.
Battery: 6-cell NiCD stick pack. Soon to be saddle from CBP.

In the pictures below you will find the receiver is not a Spektrum receiver and the transmitter is not a Spektrum transmitter, that is because I just purchased and received my Spektrum TX/RX from Cowbow yesterday, and all the pictures shown are pictures taken before yesterday. I'll make sure to post pictures of the Spektrum setup whenever I get a chance. :)

Does it tell you step by step how to build it? As on IRC, nice Axial! What kind of body do you think you will get, or just a roll cage?

Yes. Step-by-step-by-step-by-step-by-step. Lol. There was never a point when I had a question on how to put it all together, there is a GREAT manual that comes with this AX10. I'll look for a .PDF version for ya'. Also, if there were any questions along the way all the guys at [url=www.rccrawler.com[/url] would have been ontop of it in an instant!

I'll just be using the Betty Body for right now. Maybe for a shelf queen body I'll paint an F-350/650 later on. We'll see. :bigwink:

Thanks again, mate!

BLT - It will have NiMH to start out with. Right now I'm just using a 7.2V NiCD 6 cell with a Tamiya plug. Later on I'll be switching to a NiMH eight cell pack from CBP.com. If you look closly at the front axle, you will see a small, square piece of metal. That's the starting of a platform where my batteries will be laid so they're over the front axle for more front axle weight. :)

Sweed - Not really, I payed for everything on my own except for the chassis; my grandfather got that for me for Christmas. Everything else came out of my pocket, my time and my experience. Just goes to show, having a good job gets you good stuff. :)

More pictures of my first time outdoors. Finally, no crawling over my parents bed and dirty clothes! However, it does stay a lot cleaner on those indoor runs.

Sand + electronics = bad.
Rocks + electonics = bad.
Water + electronics = bad.

You flip on the lid because of a bad line and land on your electronics and you're in deep doo-doo. :p

There will be a body sooner or later. I just need to have some better weather (as well as read up a little more on lexan painting) and then I'll paint the B17 body. Nothing special, probably, but I'll try to make it look appealing. Probably something simple like black and white with some silver/chrome accents.

stang_racer

ya go with a body because if the roll cage is anytype of metal it would for one weigh it down two make it flip faster because of the raised center of gravity

Nice idea. Almost as good as me mounting my camera on top of my Xmod with rubber bands. (I need to find that video...)

Looks awesome so far. I would suggest making a roll cage out of aluminum, or even a Scorpion tube body.

Yeah, still haven't had a chance to paint the body, but I really roughly cut 'er out and mounted her clear this weekend so I didn't have to worry about flipping my electronics into the snow. I plan on getting a different body and painting that instead; I wasn't too fond of the Betty anyway.

Sure. Go to rccrawler.com.
They have an AX-10 section, full of things about the Axial, like tips, etc.
And also the vendors forum, which has chassis', DIG's, etc.

Or the vendor stores:

Nice donzii. I been lookin into one for a while. Either ill get the ARTR or the Kit...if I get some good $$$$ lol. The RTR is cool but unless I can get it for less than $300 then I won't be gettin one. DX3. Nice. I woulda done the DX3R or if it was released back then, the DX3S because of the telemetry system. Good for keepin motor temps.

Surprisingly, I haven't had one overheat issue. For the amount of stress and power this motor has, I'm astonished it doesn't even get warm to the touch. Maybe once I add a better NiMH set or LiPo set it'll get warmer, but it hasn't yet.

I know for a fact that he is running a Novak Goat BL package which ranges from 150 to 250 USD around me. This is motor/esc wise. Also he is running a Spektrum DX3.0 if I am correct. 3.0 right or is it the 2.0. Almost positive it is the 3.0

Amazingly. This is my first crawler and I had no prior experience with them; I can easily crawl over just about anything I put in front of it as long as I chose the right line. For a first timer, it's an amazing platform.

Where did I get my electronics from? Lemme make a list:

1. First transmitter and receiver, Futaba 2PH with two S3003 servos, $52.99..
2. First motor and ESC combo, Novak GOAT, $199.99.
3. First servo, HiTec HS645MG, $35.99.
4. Second servo, HiTec HS645MH, $35.99.
All electronics above purchased at Towerhobbies.com.

1. Second transmitter and receiver, Spektrum DX3, $109.00.
All electronics above purchased from private owners.

i see i might have to get one an since its cold and going to snow in the near future if i decide to get one ill have to do some indoor crawls. i might have to save some money for the esc and motor and stuff, and for the batt did the charger come with it?

None of the Axial AX10 sets (ARTR, Kit or RTR) come with a battery or charger. The RTR comes with a motor, ESC, 2-channel radio and servo. The ARTR comes with only the prebuilt chassis; you'll need to purchase a radio set, motor, esc and servo. The kit comes as a kit. You must build it all from pieces and purchase all your electronics; which is the route I took, but back then they didn't have the ARTR or RTR. Even if they did, I still would have gotten the kit. It's a great way to learn the ins and outs of your RC.

Oh, sorry. Misinterpretation on my part.

I purchased my charger (Hobbico Quick Field Charger MKII) and my batteries (Venom 1600 and Venom 3700) seperatly. I'm sure you could find a package deal somewhere online or at a local hobby store, but from my experience, it's cheaper to purchase them seperatly.

Donzii, no problem to help out, as I also have an AX-10, but it is scaled out with a JK body. Are you running weights on the wheels?

Not currently. With that heavy as a brick NiMH pack sitting over the front axle, I haven't really found I need added weight within the wheels. However, if and when I switch over to LiPo or a lighter NiMH pack, I'll probably add some weight.

Do you run weight in yours? If so, how much?

Haha, I don't run weights on the scaler. Pretty good as it is. Have you seen it?

Of course I've seen it. I've only commented on it countless times.. Lol.

Nice Axial, Kyle!

For some of you guys looking to get into the crawler scene, I'd check out the Losi Mini Rock Crawler. It comes RTR at around 240. I've read a ton of great feedback for this 1:18 crawler, and also talked to the local guys at CKRC [www.ckrccrawlers.com.] Some even say it's as capable of the AX10.

Sorry to drag this a little off-topic, but I'd thought I'd recommend the Losi for crawler-interested people.

Just a little photo update. She's been through a lot lately mudding and just plain old bashing. One of these days I'm going to get my butt into gear and actually make that chassis I want, but, in the mean time, stock gets me places others can't go!

Cheers,
Kyle.

HiTech HS645MG, I think. It's up north, and I can't exactly remember... I love the servo. Tons and tons of power and torque. Speed is lacking, but, meh, it gets the job done and doesn't cost $100... :eyecraz:

ha i hear you there on the 100 servo. still running the cheapo 3003 one works but you gotta put some fienense(sp?) in it.

Just a few short clips. Didn't make it over the rocks in the last clip.. Made it over several times when the camera was off, though. :D

Nice Donzii! The body is still clear huh? I was gonna get an AX10 RTC but ended up with a 1/16 E-Revo VXL instead  the RTC is more of a comp platform which is what I'm looking for. Not the RTR but the RTC.

Still a pile of plastic.. Grab a cheap kit and build it. You learn more about your RC and you get more for you money. I can't stand the flimsy plastic on the RTR or the RTC.

Can't blame you for going with the E-Revo, though. Those things look like a blast!

Yeah, body is still clear.. The body itself is downright ugly, so why waste paint on it? I'll buy a shelf queen sooner or later for pictures.

How dare you donzii, Bettys are not ugly! Ha. But why aren't you active on rccrawler? And what are your plans for batteries? You'd be better off without that stick pack.

Donziikid

If we're talking about Betty's as in the body then, yes, they are very ugly. I would much rather have a Bronco, Ram, Lightning or a F100. One of those four will be my shelf queen body.

I'm more of a lurker on RCC than an active posted. Still trying to get used to the ropes and understand the forum rather than jump right in. Makes things easier. Plus, no need to even make a thread to ask questions, most of them are easily found and answered with a quick search. Never seen so much information!

I plan on someday going with a 6-cell saddle pack across the front axle. Probably a CheapBatteryPack.com 1500mAh 2/3A NiMH. Might even go with a 2S LiPo someday, but I like my NiMH for now.

The stick pack works for my use. It's bulky, I admit, but sometimes that helps. At least from my experience. One of these days, though, I want to buy a new pack.

If you were able to remotely unlock the differential in the last part of the video, you wouldn't have rolled. One of the tires would have acted like a rudder to hold you in place, instead of both tires spinning and slipping downhill (your tire would have stayed on the step). This is why a selectable locker is so awesome. Allows you to lock when you need it, and leave it unlocked for stability when side hilling.

Uhm.. thanks?

I've made it over numerous times before, but if you have ever tried to capture anything on film, you should know it always goes exactly the opposite way of how you planned it.

We (my family and I) just spent this past weekend building a rock garden to surround the trees used as camouflage for the bland garage. This is the fourth time the rocks have been moved about the property, and hopefully they will finally rest there.. giving me a third rock crawling spot on the property! :) It may not be extremely large, but there are plenty of lines I can forge through all of the beautiful rocks.

Once all is said and done this will have a few more colorful plants throughout given me a beautiful backdrop to the many videos to come. This is a preview and I'll be sure to have more later on!

No music. Need to buy a video converter (shoots in .MOV, which WMM does not work with).
