View Full Version : NSX undergoing body treatment.

I started out with a yellow NSX, with the factory body kit.

Then I went to this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0398.jpg
I primered the whole car. And then I did this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0404.jpg

I liked the black, but I hated the body kit look. It was way to ricer for me. So, I did this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0472.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0473.jpg

Filled everything in.. going to get it all sanded up and smooth and good looking, primer it and make sure it's going to be good.. and go black again possibly. Not sure if I want to go with another color..

Also, here's some pics of my Bumblebee Camaro:

you ruined a perfectly good NSX man, thats not right :nodno:

You really ought to rethink how you're going about this. Once you get rid of the door lines and other things that define it as a car it looks like crap, IMO. If you do it while the putty is wet, you can trace the doorlines into your bodywork with an exacto blade.

X2, Don't get rid of all the ducts and body lines. Just like a real car, once you screw up the body lines, the paint will have warbles in it and never look like a factory job. The car will lose all definition and look like a blob.

I say you scrape all that crap off it and go with what you had before.

I appreciate all of the criticism. Definitely good to hear.

I was thinking that myself last night before bed, that it would look a little weird without any body lines.. so I am going to see what I can do about the door lines atleast, and see what I can do with the bumpers.

The scoops and body kit don't fit my style at all, so that was the main reason for trying to get rid of them. At the least, I might just fill the scoops in smooth and see where it goes from there.

Xmodificationer, it won't be ruined. I promise. ;)

That's cool, just try to get them as straight as you can, it will pay off! I'm not much of a paint/body work person, I just do the cosmetics, like brushguards and roof racks.

Making it look more like a non-GT NSX is a good idea, hope it goes well for you! I get tired of the supercar look too. :)

looks ok so far...- good luck on the finished product....that black is nice on the car.

ling427ttvette

The black does look really nice.

On a small update I have the car sanded up, still needs a few low spots filled in some more, the rear spoiler is going to look SEXY AS HELL I might say..

I need to figure something out for the sideskirts since the slight flex has caused the bondo to crack and separate right there.

I plan to do the body lowering mod as well, since it has the notorious 4 by 4 stance.. can't wait.

I can't believe how much fun these little things are.. keeps me busy until I can gather up the time to work on my real car.

That will be getting the 5 speed put in it soon, and hopefully a nice 350 engine very soon as well. :D

Well, body drop DONE. Took alot more modifying than the tutorial showed, but he used a different body as well..

Also some pics of Bumblebee with it.. something slightly different done to it.

NSX wheels on Bumblebee. The tires on the NSX wheels seem to grip slightly better, that's why they are on there. They are on from when I raced my boss. They are also slightly shorter than the Bumblebee tires, but I didn't have any issues. I think they look a little better, I plan to get the slammed wheels for it eventually though.

dude you shouldnt have done that man...

ling427ttvette
01-13-2008, 12:01 PM
You could give me a reason why instead of just telling me I shouldn't have.

I'm building my car to my likings anyway, not yours. ;) And, for driving I can raise the front of the car up back to stock.. so, I see no problems with dropping it down low while it's sitting, and driving with it at stock height.

ling427ttvette
01-13-2008, 03:52 PM
Two pictures of it in primer:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0472-1.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0473-1.jpg

Still has alot of work left to go, but that should give you guys an idea of the look I am going for.

Smooth.. no silly scoops and gaudy bumpers. Body kits are about the stupidest thing made. They don't look good, and they have no function.

ling427ttvette
01-21-2008, 08:40 PM
Couple new pictures:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0487.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0488.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0489.jpg

Still VERY rough.. but this is what I am aiming for. I decided to take away a good portion of the bondo and just smooth in the scoops and spoiler, and smooth the skirts a little better. Still having problems with the bondo cracking though.. need to figure out how to get it stronger there.

imnotmikal
01-21-2008, 08:44 PM
The bondo could have been sanded a lot more.

But good idea, all-in-all.

if you want to drop the nsx in the back a little more you can shave the place where the clip goes

ling427ttvette
01-21-2008, 08:50 PM
Oh I know.. I shaved it quite a bit already, but I want to take it down more to get it a little lower.

I tried the slammed wheels on it for ****s and giggles last night.. didn't work out too well.

I've been watching this for a little while, and the NSX has come along ways. Still pretty rough, and I'd strongly recomend painting the inside of the body, just to make it look better, and if your selling those rims, I'd buy them real fast, gotta love them twin RSX's :D

lol yeah i did that too when it was stock hight i liked it but i coudlnt get it to work lol so i was liek hmm maybe my nsx just isnt in the need for huge rims

ling427ttvette
01-21-2008, 08:55 PM
The black NSX wheels? Nah.. plan on keeping them on the car since it will be an all black kind of theme.. stealth ya know. ;)

I plan to do the inside as well since the yellow still shows on the wheel wells.. probably going to break it out here in a few and start sanding and working on the bondo some more.. need to apply a little more in a few places and hopefully I will be almost done.

Edit: Darken, I was surprised I got them to fit under the back with it lowered, but I had to put the front to stock height.. and it still barely fit. Looked like a "donk" too, I got a good laugh.

I have another update. :D

Not quite finished but I am almost there.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0529.jpg
I need to get some headlight lenses, which I have some found I'm pretty sure. I also need to trim the hood some since it still won't sit down all the way with the body drop. Also, it's dirty in this picture as you can tell.. it's late and I should be in bed. :p

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0530.jpg
Need a few more adjustments back here, some more prep work on the bumper and some paint.. but, that's how the rear will look. First rear shot I've put up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0531.jpg
And, the over-all look. I think it looks gorgeous, nice and smooth.

dontspamme
01-29-2008, 12:09 AM
If you want it nice and smooth, you should probably do something with the hood. IMO the NSX isnt looking ttoo great, because of the flatness of it. Looks like a rectangle if somethings are put in certian places, but its a great job, but not my kind of car. I also see you molded the stock roof scoop onto it. Do you have another one? I could use one.

ling427ttvette
01-29-2008, 12:13 AM
Actually the windows are still taped over. I still haven't removed the scoop actually, I don't want to run it. I took the screw out but I couldn't get the scoop to pop out.

And, I want to do something with the hood but I wasn't really sure what to do. I thought about smoothing it out, but the hood really isn't that horrible looking IMO. I might mess around with it, try making a photoshop of it smoothed out or something, but I might keep it as is.

Once I get the tape off the windows, if I can pop out the scoop it's yours.

dontspamme
01-29-2008, 12:16 AM
I'm not saying the hood looks bad, but IMO it doesnt really flow with the rest of the car. How much do you want for the hood scoop? Got something planned for that.

ling427ttvette
01-29-2008, 12:19 AM
Just PM me your address and I'll cover it. ;)

Hoping to be done by the end of the week, should be able to take the tape off by then.

I can see why you say it doesn't flow, a nice smooth look all around and then the hood has the hard lines in it.. I'll see what I can do with it.

dontspamme
01-29-2008, 12:22 AM
Cool, thanks man. Hope you get that hood fixed! and I think I have the headlight lense form the bodykit. Not sure if I can find them though..

Edit, isnt it time for you to get to bed?

ling427ttvette
01-29-2008, 12:23 AM
I heard the lenses from the body kit have a yellowish tint to them? Hell, if you wouldn't mind trading the scoop for the lenses if they are clear that would be pretty sweet.

Edit: If anyone needs it I also have the spoiler off of this thing in perfect shape.. don't need it either.

dontspamme
01-29-2008, 12:25 AM
Yea, the lense has a yellow-ish tint to them, but I'm sure you can get it off. Using Noturday's clear headlight lense tut. Sand the colour off then clear coat it, but I'm not entirly sure about it since I never tried it.

Go ahead, post it up. I'd kind of like to see yours as well.

I can't wait to get all of the little details sorted out now. Still need to spray the underside of the body, probably going to re-paint the orange on the turn signals into it, and I still need to take everything back apart and clear it a couple times.

ling427ttvette
01-29-2008, 08:49 PM
Oh trust me, the paint was dry. ;) It was just there from when I was pushing the hood in, since there was a little paint in there it was harder to push in.

Why black? Mostly because I had 6 cans of black paint.. I plan to run out and get different colors for when I do Bumblebee though. I might make the NSX another color someday.. not sure what color though.

kinda feel behind on this thread, but the out come actually looked pretty good i must say. pretty shaved, maybe a little to shaved, but it does look decent, its different so props for that! it could deff look worse. paintjob looks pretty good too, so i gotta give the thumbs up on doing something different! good job :thumleft:

ling427ttvette
01-31-2008, 01:07 AM
Thanks SPR. The body work still isn't exactly perfect, but it's definitely come a long ways since the beginning. If I were going for a "show car" look this would be junk... but for my first time seriously messing around with bondo and doing something like this, I am more than pleased.

And, even though this goes against my whole stealth look.. I really like the way this turned out:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0532.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0533.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0534.jpg

Decided to throw those on while I was putting the red control arms on the rear from the AWD kit.. and I think I might stick with them. But, I am still keeping the NSX wheels.

Edit: Jesus, black on an RC car is as hard to keep clean as it is on a real life car.. I think I might be painting this car red in the near future or something. O_o

darkendblades
01-31-2008, 03:17 AM
looks really sweet my man love the bumblebee rims on it, and i guess im going to have to choose a different color on my nsx when i get to that part still not done with my body work yet.

ling427ttvette
01-31-2008, 10:40 PM
Well, another update but no pictures at the moment.

The hood is smoothed out and the hole filled in, it's in primer right now but it's not looking that great, needs more work.

The rear bumper has been filled better, it's got a coat of black on it. The underside of the car is now completely black so there should be no pesky yellow sticking out... once all of this dries and I clean the body up better, might even do a little more work to it.. I will throw on a few coats of clear.

Almost sad that it's coming to an end, but at the same time that means I get to start painting the Camaro once I get a little extra money. :D

Edit: Almost forgot, the back sits almost as low as the front now. ;)

darkendblades
01-31-2008, 10:45 PM
sweet, and i was going to ask about the back being dropped but you already got it and lol i wonder if its as low as mine lol i shaved the back so much the side skirts screws get in the way of cliping in the body lol so i need to shave the top of the batt holders>

ling427ttvette

And, that was before the second lowering. O_o

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0537.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/ling427ttvette/IMG_0538.jpg

The bumper ended up getting something on it while the paint dried, so I have to re-do it. :(

But, it's all good. The body also suffered from a little overspray when I coated the bottom.. but, I plan to smooth it out just a touch more anyway, so no biggie there either. Just small details from here pretty much.

I had to re-do alot of body work around the windows anyway, and I gave it a light coat of silver because I wanted to see what it would look like.. well, once I get all of the little things fixed, it will look like this. The hood will stay black also. I like this look ALOT more.

Edit: Wow, sorry for the bad quality pictures.. those are horrible. :(

The PJ looks a bit crappy. But that might be the car's smoothness or the camera. I'm not feeling this as much as the car being black. You send out the roof scoop yet? I'm dying to do mods to my cars...

ling427ttvette
02-19-2008, 12:07 AM
I just got the scoop off, but I am currently a very, very broke person.

It is yours though, just like I said and you will get it.

The PJ looks crappy as heck, like I said in the text I just quickly did it to get an idea of how it would look because I need to redo the body work around the windows. When I peeled off the tape it took paint with it and ruined anything that was decent.. so I am going to try other methods this time.

Can't you guys tell by the windows that it's not done yet? I haven't had time to work on it, and have been busy working on my other ones. Still need to do more work on the Camaro.

IMO, you shouldn't make judgements like that until I am completely done.

Thanks Texan, hopefully when it's done a few other people might change their minds. I don't plan to leave it rough looking, I know it looks rough.. but it's not done, which should be pretty obvious.

I have a stock nsx with body kit, but i wish they made a body kit that it didn't look that racing car look.

Just simple and plain what you have.

Not that i am getting busy on my nsx but it would be nice if they made it.

Nice work i hope it gets a bit more sleek.
