Far better marketing strategy then Toyota's. Using real world conditions and situations. Cant wait for them to get the other few up from that guy.

it should be the tundra going up the seesaw when the silverado comes along dragging an upsidedown ridgeline chained to a titan races up the ramp at full speed, and knocks the tundra onto a parked celica, which disintegrates...and then it rolls down a hill, hits a vette, and explodes! the vette drives away. then the burning tundra is hit by a truck carrying ssr's with construction workers in 'em(if you don't get that, you didn't watch tv last year). the end.

the chevy 'pwns' the tundra only because of that feature. if the tundra had that, that deomstration probably wouldn't happen. but it dosen't really matter. a car is a car, if it gets you where you need to go, it's good enough :bigwink:

whats all this ford nonsense in a thread about chevy pwning the tundra, i'd like to see a f150 try that same stunt tho haha by the way if you didnt notice, both of these trucks are in 2 wheel drive, theres no front wheels driving to assist either truck

not really that amazing since the chevy has the "Automatic Locker rearend" in it.
IF the Tundra had the same feature it would be able to do the same thing.

I haven't seen GM or Ford showing ANY of their trucks pulling a 10K+ payload and doing the same things that Toyota does.
Noturday go to a dealer and look at both trucks, The Toy is much heavier built than the GM and the brakes on it are at least 4 in. in diameter bigger than the chevy. Sorry to disagree with you but the new GM's are BUTT ugly.

I think that would be the point, wouldn't it?

The Tunda commercials show what the Tundra can do, and the Chevy commercials show what the Chevy can do. Why show something that both can do the same exact thing, in the same exact interval of time? That'd be pointless..

Brakes are bigger because the truck weighs more. Hence the identical stopping distances, even while trailering. Doing the same things Toyota does? Please tell me you are not referring to the commercials for your argument.

one time i saw a ford escort that crushed thru a 4runner head on. it knocked out everything below the window line all the way to the mid drivers door. the escort's engine was hardly damaged.

redrkt, ford isn't better?

idk about dodge...

Firebird999 that has not relevance to the topic, and even if the engine wasnt damaged its not like the car was gonna be goin anywhere under its own power

and Redrkt, i've watched the video a few times and i've noticed that the Chevy makes it through the ditch farther than the tundra does BEFORE the auto locking rear end kicks in, so even witht he auto locker the tundra would still be stcuk nose deep in muddy snow

BY THE WAY: for some more fun facts showing that chevy PWNs the tundra click the link right under the video that links you to another jalopnik page, its good stuff, read it.

All i know is that imports suck and will forever suck. How many imports older than around 1996-8 do you see driving around, not too many. Sure the tiny engines may hold up better but you will be nickeled and dimed to death by other little stupid stuff that is necessary to drive such as front axles, alignment (every foreign car I have ever driven had seriously screwed alignment) interior pieces, body panels that rust, the list goes on and on. And how many 96 and older domestic cars do you see, a crap load more than the imports.

This "commercial" is faked and you can tell it, chevy would be a lot more, well clean, than what was in that video. the quality sucks! But it proves a point.

Also, if the biggest feature of your truck is the brakes, well

The chevys do have some weak points though, my dad has a 2007 GMC sierra he got at the same time I got my G5. The front rotors are too thin and they will warp and rattle the wheel some when you hit the brakes hard and the brakes squeak under light braking, but that could be fixed with better pads. And it has drum brakes in the rear, I don't know why gm decided to go backwards with technology, but they do work.

When the new Tundra came out Toyota had to recall a crap load of them. The problem was so bad that it would crack the engine block. Theres been a lot more since then.

OMG, you have to be kidding. I see way more imports than domestics around here that are beyond 10 years old. From what I see imports last easily 20+. If taken care of 30+ is not out of the question. And as far as domestic vs foreign it is hard to compare since the vehicles are built all over the place. A lot of foreign cars are built right here in North America by North American workers. So if there is any build quality complaints then look to your own auto workers.

gm went back to drum brakes because the rear disc set up they wear using the past few years as been very problematic. Drum brake work very good in the rear and have a longer live then pad and rotors. Rear disc was more of a marketing thing, you know give the people what they want if they need it or not.

Walking. Do you have the slightest clue what the Yugo is? :o As my tech teacher puts it "Americans when they find something that doesnt fit, they machine it another 1/1000s of an inch so it fits. The russians just put a bigger seal on it", if this gives you any clue to the shotty engineering of a Yugo.

The front rotors are too thin and they will warp and rattle the wheel some when you hit the brakes hard and the brakes squeak under light braking

Cite your source on that? Never seen any GM truck or SUV do this, ever. If you hit the brakes hard enough, you may feel ABS kick in and vibrate your pedal, but not due to brakes warping.

Drums just tend to lock up more than disks when in the rear, but with ABS these days as efficient as it is, that becomes a negatable issue for trucks. Their no sports cars. Mind you, 18 wheelers have nothing but drums. :bigwink:

I don't really have a source for that other than driving it but my Pontiac G5 does it as well, but a whole lot worse. It is defiantly not the ABS kicking in because ABS will just pulse the pedal, not the steering.

Wait, check this out

That proves that the front rotors are low quality on my own car so I'm pretty sure its the same with the Chevys and GMCs. Im not dissin the Chevy or my car for that matter, I love my car and wouldn't trade it for any import, ever! Besides if you take it to a dealer they will fix it.

Another thing, imports are more expensive than domestics (excluding Hyundai/Kia, but those are piles of ****) My car cost around 16.5k and a Honda Civic with the same features will run you about 19.5k.
