hum.....all my experiences with chrome and clear coat dont go too well

i had some nice chromed rims, and put clear coat on them, and it reacted in seconds and totally ruined them.
if thats why you are asking, i also would like to know fi there is a chrome paitn which can be clearcoated, because it hink its the plasticote 1 which i used...which can not be.

thanks guys.

the silver on the hood vents is tamiya "chrome silver" acrylic and on the tach is krome foil.
both are cleared over.

the problem is the paint your trying to use.
almost all rattlecans contain either keytones, acetones and other harmful chemicals as etching agents.

the way to clear over chrome plated plastic is with acrylic paint.
once the acrylic is dry then you can go back to your rattlecan.
to use enamel clear over acrylic is kinda tricky though, you first have to spray a couple very light dustings and let them dry.
once they are fully dry you can lay down a good wet enamel clearcoat.
let it cure fully, cut it with some 1000G sandpaper and polish it up and you have a cleared chrome piece.

Bondo

yup, 85 Z28. i actually stole my spoiler from your soon to be new car:bigwink:

now for the chassis update.
this is the best i could do until my liths get here.

it has:
GPM
swaybars front/back
front/rear gearboxes
gear cover
heatsink
shocks front/rear
godbonez
0 degree tierod
all 4 knuckles

Delrin ASD differential (locked)

V3 Spider

6cell (for now)

Atomic "CHILI" motor

sheilded bearings.

power switch bypass.

not too shabby for a couple hours of work.
BTW,this is the first performance chassis i've built that i've had running.(60 KPH on the Dyno is'nt too bad for a first try eh....:bigwink: )

check the results.(all tests are in 12-23 gearing)

GPM/Delrin chassis/S2:

85 Z28, hope its built some, their sadly anemic. 1990 was the 1st year the Formula got its balls back. The 305 made 210 and 240 or so in its 2 forms. Wheres all the F bodies of the 80s were chocking on 180 hp, even in the 5.7

Nice speeds though.

And, sway bars? Please show

**** right it's a brick......
after the li-ions get here i'm going to remove most of the GPM and slap everything to an Acme chassis.
most of the weight now is from the 6 **** batts in it.

sorry, sway bars was a bad term. i guess they would be the control arms.
this miniature terminology is kinda messing with me.

and yeah, the "maro is built(kinda)
i just put in a brand spanking new 350ci. Edelbrock built 4 bolt main crate but i replaced the performer intake and 400 4bbl carb with the stock 305 intake and 600 4bbl holley carb.
it sits at 358 HP untuned/tweeked.
i set the timing, put it on the DYNO and that's it.

i have a few HP goodies coming shortly and by the time it's all said and done, it should be pushing just over 400BHP. probably close to 412 if my calculations are right.
412 out of a 350 isnt too bad, it could be better but i dont have the budget for anything like that.

trans is a 700R4 with a borrowed servo from a vette. i cant remember wich tranny it came from though.

sorry for the confusion but the way i worded it was to show the MFCR's.
Delrin is who makes the ASD(adjustable slip differential(ball diff)).

Not bad at all. Quite lovely in fact, my dad has a built Tuned Port Injection 350 that was pushing just over 400. A rebuilt and slightly modded (shift kit, some other tricks) 700R4. Sadly, the 78 El Camino that was to recieve that beaute was totalled after a truck lost control and slid into it one winter, and it took off. Wrecked the bed bad (being unibody, PITA to clip a new bed on) and twisted its structure. I miss that truck though, custom two tone paint (done by my dad, in his garage) with a nicely done intieror. Bucket seats, and hand made stainless steel trim panels on the dash.

i hear that, this body was painted more or less for a tutorial for the "true flame".
i have a few BK parts but the chrome skirts were the only ones worth a **** and the tach was made to enhance them.
i had the good skirts with the sidewinders but the pipes ended up going to the "hotstang" so pretty much the only thing i had left was a spare set of skirts with 2 per each so i kept the chromer look.
peronally,i think that chrome is overated but i hold no bones about putting it on a shell that i plan to sell.
plain and simple......chrome sells...BIGTIME!!!

hate to see a camino go......
we had one that we were puitting together awhile back wich was a 72 chevelle'camino.
we called it the chevellecamaromino(wich is similar to the thundercougarfalconbird........(but GM of course.))
it had a few misc. pieces from an 82' berlinetta on it as well as the buckets so it was **** near a quarter camaro.

lotsa fun times spent in that 'mino.....
plenty of days spent at the mall skurfin' in the bed of it:bigwink:

as for my 'maro, the TPI is coming in the future but for now,....carburation is fine.......and cheaper:lol:

believe me, when i was looking at crates, that LS7 was very tempting but i would have had to take out a second mortgage and i'm not really willing to pay twice as much for a motor through interest.....:roll_eye:
the ZZ4 was also a close possibility
i decided to stick with a budget,tunable,reliable 350ci powerplant.
it's perfect for what i'm looking for now.
just something to "go baby, go" until the rest of the car is finished.
once i get the int. and body to show class, it's going to get another new PP with atleast 500HP.

the 412HP that i'm looking at is pretty modest but it's going to work for now.
the car is only 2400LBS dry..........a bit heavier then your truck but i have more weight on the wheels that matter....:bigwink:

so im guessing the chili doesnt work with the GPM motor/gear holder thing?

i'm glad you noticed that....

it does if you wish to trim about .75mm of aluminum from the housing.
i wasnt willing to do that as i might be selling it soon.
it's the M1 endbell that does it. it even fits tight on the stock GBH but is manageable.

**** good eye bro....
to anyone else reading this,...dont forget to reverse the polarity on the atomic chili and stock R.

Lemme tell you something, bhouse, what the hell do you know?

Go look at air brushed flames on many of todays hot rods, they use stencils as well.
http://www.airbrushtricks.com/worklogimages/Fire%20026.jpg
Hell, all airbrush artists do, when they go for details and such. You dont get hard edges from a mist of paint ;) Learn something before you have the balls to talk.
BTW, this man does do professional work, and you dont do ****. Ya prick.

But dude, if you want to argue with bondo and I, your going to loose miserably.

Bondo-Lets say the truck hit hard enough to dent the bed corner through, and one long one from the stress that reached the door.. Actually, though I think your Camaro weighs more then 2400... my truck trumps it in the weight department. Just over 3 tons

Thats true, Bhouse, why exactly do you think Bondo's using a stencil? Even if he is, whats so wrong about using a stencil? Look at what Noturday brought up and what Texan posted about Mike Lavallee. So you think he "cheated" when he painted that Camaro? I'd also like to see you use a airbrush and use some stencils and paint something like Bondo has there.

BTW: Bondo, the firebird is kick ***. Is it me or theres 2 layers of tires on the rear? Good luck with the COTM, gotta get back on topic now since bhouse person is banned :D Finally!!

yes sir, the tires are doubled up in the rear for a drag slick look without using the firebird rims and red striped tires.

now let's get this sorted.
i DO use stencils, masking tape, liquid mask, netting, mesh and ALOT of other materials to do my paintjobs.
none of this is cheating. the paint is still going on the body and it still looks good at the end.
yes there are painters that can freehand true flame but i would love to see anyone of them throw some licks at 1:28 freehand and get the sharp edges that i get.
if anyone would like to see how i paint then check here.

Ok - judging from all the commotion that has been cleared away - why didn't the mods tear a new one into Bhouse before he made a mess of a good thread in the 1st place:-? - darn my 3 yr son is more respectly to elders than that 12yr old moron "bhouse".

Anyways, I know talent when I see it and B-man has alot of talent - heck he's great at what he does and if anything - look at what he started with until now - all of his work has improved dramatically for him working on such small scale stuff. Time and patiences will sharpen anyones' skills so I only expect him to get even better.

And with that - just to let ya'll know how much of a good painter he is - he's actually painted 2 Xmods bodies for me - 1 is done and the other he's still working on - so there, even I know I can't paint stuff like Bondo so why not have him do what he does best!
