Day 1: FRIDAY! FRIDAY! FRIDAY!

Going out today to pick up the motor and trans, its a Chevy SB 350 and TH350 auto. Leave around 6 or so to get it.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/IMG_4083.jpg

Get it home, and unload it onto the engine stand, or just the floor for now... and then give the block a new coat of orange, and all the accesories and brackets black. That will dry over night.

Day 2: SATURDAY! SATURDAY! SATURDAY! (and sunday!!!)

Using the motor mounts and transmission mounts that came in yesterday (gotta love NAPA) well prep the truck for the motor, and start work getting it in. Then if possible, rig it up to run. Hopefully we'll be able to pull the gas tank out as well, and check it up for leaks or rust. Maybe toss the drive shaft in, and move it a little. Doubt that though, since there really isnt much left of the gas petal assembly.

Anyways, this will be the weekend update thread.

Haha! Yes! Finally! Make sure to get a video of her first start up in the truck!

Congrats man! How much did the engine and trans cost you again?

$750, rebuilt a few years ago they say. Look in my other thread at the work these guys do, I trust that this was built right.

Their dirt modified car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X9xm4r3Qls

Trust me, Ill have it recorded when the thing starts up, even if its a short run. Depends if we can get fuel into it..

sweet mang, it's always exciting to get a new powerplant.
that looks like the same engine i just put in my 'maro.......
your intake looks like a stock 350 intake though and my engine came with the edlebrock performer and 4bbl.
i switched those out for the stock 305 intake and a holley 4bbl. not exactly an improvement but i need the emissions and the performer didnt allow it.
why do these bastids have to cost so much:uhoh: :eyecraz:

the TH is a good tranny but the best match for a 350SB is the turbo 400 followed closely by the 700R4.

keep us posted mang, i actually saw a cst10 the other day and thought of you:bigwink:

Mkay, story time.

Last night we dropped by the shop to pick up the motor, loaded it, and our engine stand back into the truck, talked with the 2 guys there for about an hour about car stuff, haha, came home
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home011.jpg

And then stripped it down that night.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home014.jpg

'bout 10 in the morning, got to work. Repainted the block Chevy Orange engine enamal.

before
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home035.jpg

after
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home037.jpg

Now sadly the engine's paint is better than the truck's

Then you guys know the fun game of dropping an engine and transmission in:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home038.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home048.jpg
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home049.jpg

Had to take the manifolds off because they got in the way of the motor mount brackets. Otherwise fit like a charm. And luckily the tail shaft on the transmission was unchanged from when it was in a 70s C10 (lived the rest it's time in a '69 Camaro), so the drive shaft will fit too. We'll rebolt all the accessories on at a later time...

But, main thing is, IT RUNS. This motor is amazingly new. Even the exhaust valves were still clean. When they said freshly rebuilt, no kidding. Transmission is the same way, which they said was rebuilt years back too. Best $750 spent.

Haha! Congrats man! Now put your manifolds on before your engine bay gets dirty!

After everything is bolted in, all it should need is some carb tuning and you should be the happiest guy on the block! haha

Thanks red.

Tuning? Not needed, this thing is timed and tuned spot-on. Runs beautifully. The thing started right up, didnt need to crank it over much at all.

How is it gonna get dirty? lol... May have some proper manifolds soon, gotta see if the one a friend has are right on.

Np!

Is it? Nice! I didn't notice, it somehow kept cutting out in the video... No throttle cable, may be?

Oh yeah, its already dirty! :eyecraz: j/k

Well, its running off a tiny cup of gas thats poured into the carb, it's not like there is much fuel to burn in there. Plus with no manifolds it sounds kinda funny (and your only hearing one side of the motor pretty much too, from the camera's position, and the embed on this forum seems to slow the frame rate). But the motor runs strong, no knocks or misses, firing on all 8. Responsive too.

Yup, the ball joint from the 70s C10 was still on the Carb linkage, so the CST/10s throttle linkage popped right on, so I have throttle hook up.

Hm...

V8 right, I only see three exhust ports on the side of the motor?

its a V8, there is a port on the far right of the block but its covered by the wiring and the headers are small and in the middle there is 2 ports and they are close together while the other 2 are over on either far side. and tex were you at sonic?!?!

xmodificationer, that whole explanation confused, me, must have made sweed blow his mind  But yes, sonic. And what was ironic, was on the other side of sonic from where we parked, was another '69 CST/10.

Sweed, how do you take such advanced classes in highschool, but can't look at pictures?

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e321/texan_idiot25/v8home035.jpg

The exhaust ports on Chevy V8s is like [] [][] []. With manifolds, the center two flow into one chamber. With headers though, each port gets its own header tube.

nice engine, glad to see it coming together, what are you thinking for the exhaust system? i love the way engines sound without headers.

that was what i was trying to say, and yea seriously sweed how could you not know that by looking at a picture?

I'm used to Four Bangers..

I was looking at the video. Screw the pictures.

EDIT:
Advanced classes? What, were did you hear that?
AP Statistics: I learned the whole Chapter 4 (or was it 5?) on Wednesday, took the test, and went back to sleep...
SECME: and I have a "C" currently. My group hasn't done anything, so I get to do a project...
Health: I sleep, take the test, and go back to sleep. Boring. Half the class doesn't speak english anyways.
Comp. Programming: Our teacher hardly speaks english (in a accent people understand), and all we've done is some Loops in Java.

that thing sounds like a beast without headers. please put magnaflow on that truck, it would sound soooooo nice.

:p Wonder what the neighbors thought of it?

It has some existing dual exhaust on it, but w/out headers its useless. We may get a free pair of manifolds that will fit. Then probably just take it to a muffler shop and get a new exhaust system.

Though, Im fallin for the sound of Glass Packs. Not wasting money on blowmasters, they flow about as much air as an asthmatic through a straw. Good sound, but Ill take less expensive, better flowing, and similar sound mufflers over them.

you should go to the magnaflow website, they might have an audio clip of that engine with their system on it. honestly, i've never heard a vehicle that sounded bad with magnaflow, and its good performance wise. it even made my old lil honda sound like a beast.

Ill check them out, but I mainly comes down to what I can afford, lol.

I want a true dual set of 2.5 inch pipes, straight out the back, or maybe side exit before each rear tire. Either way, needs to exit enough so I can later slap on a flame thrower kit, the old school way. With just an extra ignition coil wired to a switch and a spark plug in the pipes :p Good ol Carburation takes care of the rest.
