you can shave down the back deck and drill holes into it to remove osme plastic... and shave down the whole chassis just dont make the cahssis 2 weak

I suggest NOT removing the front deck, that is the only thing that keeps the front end rigid, in turn keeping the suspension true and square. instead drill several holes in it or cut out the center leaving the perimeter intact.

choosing an xmod is all personal preference. pick what bodystyle you like and go from there. the cars are all the same staight out of the box(performance wise)

u could make it a convertible. some cars look pretty good. (put the battery, motor connection under the windshield) althought the wind resistance would counteract the slight weight difference.

You can easily reduce the weight by replacing things like decks and chassis, at www.customxmodsparts.com, they've got pretty much everything, check it out for yourself

You can make a custom fornt deck so it is lighter but still does the job. Just use a dremel to drill the shape and holes out of the plastic on a cd cover. It helps if you trace the design first. Then sand it down more. I did it on mine and the new deck is about 7 grains lighter. I used my dads firework / chemical measure thing he has so it is a very accurate scale. It wont affect the speed to much but doing it with soem other weight reduction will help.
I believe there is a full tutorial for this at xmodworld.com .

You could go to www.rcbutlers.com and buy a carbon fiber chassis
