hey this is for the mods, admins, and old members that have been here for awhile. im really curious about this site and what it was like before it was hacked and stuff. i was looking at some really old threads and stuff and got really curious. When it was hacked what all happened and Why? i was looking at a thread and it sayed that the hacker banned all the mods and admins. how did this get resolved and what was the outcome? this is really fasinating to me and i would like to know more.

Back in the old days (03-04) this place was diffrent. We had Livestrong, Viperdout, XRL_15th Place Skyline, and Stixx around, and the good old modders like JSHWAA..

It was cool, there was a store, and it was the same in noobs, but more custom projects going on.. I left for the time it got hacked, but it was pretty much the same back then

i'm not sure why it matters.
almost all of the larger forums have been hacked at one point or another.
i'm sure it was some punk kid like(i hate to use him as an example but..) fordman who opened their big mouth,got pwned by someone and felt they needed to take it out on the entire forum.

I do remember sometime in '03 when I was still a computer n00b that I got an old account banned, haha... That was WAY before I learned any forum etiquette and just ignored n00bs being stupid and asking ridiculous questions and giving ridiculous answers...

I don't recall the username I went by before, though...

Dunno, I just keep hearing his stuff got deleted... It's not like it's hard to do. The admin can delete your account, change you're password, post count, subtitle, all at will.

My old one was SwedishRacer, then SwedishRacer2... I go by Pronokini on AM's forum these days.. And I'm sxysweed or Sweed at most places..

All forums have been hacked, it just not always noticable. XMW had the email notification of PM's hacked, and Mango being a TI guy, he got thier hacking network/forum shut down, but it's not bad. The Tech Guys for the forums know what thier doing, and get it up in a few days..

The worst I've seen happen to a xmod forum is that it litterally burned down.

lol someone mentioned fordman and i noticed he had been banned on xmodworld and xmodded. i thought that was pretty funny...

i was here when xmods first came out but i dont know what my acount an stuff is. but to my understanding that was all after the hacking still. wasnt xmodsource an old forum not for xmods?? than it got changed by boske or someone??

Getting banned from XMW isn't something you want to do...

Most xmod forums weren't xmod related, alot were PC/Tech stuff. I know when I was digging through XMF I found all kinds of PC and BB Code stuff..

i didnt get banned from anywhere...? but yeah i know most forums are the same then they sell em or they go down and someone else takes over and they might even change it to a diferrent topic alltogether...

i remember my old motor scooter forum that it used to be about like war and a veterans reuniting forum. and i asked the mod why someone changed it to a scooter forum...cause it was completely irelevant to veterans...

The creater/owner of the site had a house fire, and site went down with it, lol..

Don't know, many mini-z and micro sites picked up.. But AtomicMods was in on making li-ion (started the craze) and had a forum up very early. But XmodSpeed and XmodWorld were in there early on, and this forum as well.

I was hacked, I was an admin, the ygot my PW banend all the mods and it was hacked at one point by backdrift. He hacked into Dean's account (xmod) and changed the pw and email so Dean couldnt get in. They all mods and admins were banned thats the story....

Its an inside joke between me, sweed, and Mongo.

Yeh, its stupid little turkish hackers, last time it happened Mongo, a few members and I spammed up the hacker's forum like NUTS, then Mongo got their hosting taken a way and shut them down. Thier site violated some T&Cs

Ah yes, Xmodsource before the hack...

Well I remember back even before I joined, I browsed this forum for about a year. Viperdout and his Mamba Cobra. I always remember Livestrong350z cause of his avatar. And Dean, I always talked to Dean whether it be on AIM or on the forums. The store and real cheap CF chassis too. I'm not sure if it was before or after the hacking I want to say after, that Dean was selling everything in the store CHEAP. I almost bought a chassis. But anyways, I remember the hacking because I would go to the home page and the same threads would be up for ever. Nothing in, nothing out I'm pretty sure unless there were advertisements and porn stuff. Honestly, I enjoyed Xmodsource better before the hacking except with my acquired power to keep this place alive and clean.

What was the 1st xmod site

Xmodworld, XmodSpeed, AtomicMods, don't know. Most Micro places added Xmod's to thier forum... But The above three were in it from early on.. Oh, InfernalRC (Team MNM) was early on...

XmodSpeed had the first (or was it MNM?) 40mph Gen1 Xmod.. This was before we had GPM Parts, so all the cups and bones were being custom made my AtomicMods..

I wanna say Atomic had the 40 MPH with the Tardian Cells. But I also remember MNM they had some neat stuff. I'm pretty sure their still around. For larger scales atleast.

Yah, AM had the Tardian cells and sparked the Li-ion craze, but I don't think it was doing 40mph on a stock EP...

Team MNM is still around on larger scales (See IRC), but XmodSpeed was accused of scamming, and went down before the middle of '04.

How'd you get back then?

I believe Boske came back and loaded a backup file to restore the forum. I know it was back drift cause he taught me a way to hack this forum using Mozilla Firefox, but its updated now and it doesnt work I dont think I havent tried it and he keylogged me.

hmmm, this sounds similar to Live free or die hard, the guy said the government is vernable to a attack and they dont believe him and he hacks the place. kinda like what happended a long time ago

speaking of XMW though, i just tried to visit it and norton snagged a hacktool.

Bondo, my computer wasn't loading it before, and other people have had trouble logging in, so it's just to close the window and try again.

I'm running Norton and no problems here.

Ive got nothing, non of my spyware programs on my pc have found anything either, false alarms?

War games is about a kid who accidently hacks the US missle control center on his old pc, and accidently starts a bomb program, thinking its a game on his pc. The Gov't was looking for a master hacker, since it was "impossible" to hack in, when it was jsut a kid with a dial up connection

All I can remember is there was a white supra at the top instead of the blue WRX, but maybe that was after the hack too.
On the topic of micro RC and support for it, whenever I mention MiniZ to hobby shop guys around here, they get an attitude with me like I'm some kind of an idiot. I see some cool tracks on youtube for mini R/C but my theory is that hobby shops don't usually promote mini R/C because there's so much more money in the bigger cars for them. I recently found out about some tracks around here, but they're all dirt. There's also a league that does on road in parking lots, big cars, 1/10.

I think Mini R/C is great, because you don't need as much space to do it, but it can be just as competitive and fun to race.

Anyway, back to the topic, I remember they're being like all the threads on the homepage were the same thread for a while, I guess that was part of the hack, like each one was exactly the same. Pretty lame.

Anyhow, I contacted our hosting provider (in which I am not happy with) and this was the reasoning for the downtime:

There was some temporary configuration issue on the server.It has been fixed now.

The site before was using phpBB, a free forum script (like XMOD world) that has many security issues if not updated...well because its free. I did not update the phpBB and it became vulnerable to attacks and I believe passwords were changed and/or stolen (most likely changed).

In any case I have reversed the site around and things are back to normal, secure, the way they should be...
