I personally liked the 2003 - 2007 models better.:D
It looks like a Mazda 3; just my opinion.

I HATED it from the first time I saw the Spy video of it.

You guys need to search it up and see it BONE STOCK. It looks like crap. This one has a kit on it, so its not as bad. Still not feeling the tail lamps tho

1) By Far the Sexiest one... i dunno why...

that's actually the model car version... i was too lazy to find the real one

2)Better than last gen's and look, it smiling!

3)One the first ones... not too great but not too bad...

4)Looks like the B9 Tribeca, which is ugly... and i believe that it was partially ford's fault because they helped style it...
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2364/subaruwrcrallycardd5.jpg

5)Last because it is the super ugly bug eyed look

I agree with you except i would switch #2 and #4 around.
The pre 2000's were alright. From 2000-2002 things just got freaky. 2003 - 2005 was the BEST. 2006 - 2007 was nice, and finaly, the 2008 one is just a Mazda 3 with water paint decals and a plastic bodykit:lol:

pick one....'03 and '04 were different models.

and blobeyes are the fugliest ones.

any of you guys seen the '08 in person?! yea...pics don't do it justice.

STi's and their WRC counterparts are about function over form. if you can't appreciate how gorgeous this car REALLY is.....you don't deserve to breathe on it. get an SRT4 and an upside-down pink visor. :p

Hmm.. That new design is so much not Subaru. I agree with AeroSynch that it looks a bit like the Mazda3. Though this one is not that ugly..
But the sexiest Impreza ever made was 22B, and as my 2. favorite comes 2006 edition. :p

Faester, now that you posted the 22B, I change my list and put that to the top!

Numb gets too defensive around his Subbies and his Subie-Pride...!

it's not just subarus. I always get PO'd when people put form over function. whether it's trying to make a pickup truck fast, or dismissing one of the most potent cars on the planet because it looks like a camry....

btw....the '08 STi would whomp a 22b in every way, except MAYBE in a straight line (same peak hp, 22b is lighter....but I'm pretty sure the torque curve of the EJ257 is way better than the EJ22k)

although, I must agree, the 22b is an extremely sexy car. too bad it's essentially impossible to even see one, much less own one. there are a couple companies that make fiberglass widebody kits though.

texan_idiot25

I really hope the STi will share alot of this body. This helps it so much. The stock WRX is just bland. Bringing back the edgy kind of ugly is the Subi way. The last body style, to most was really bad, but still aggressive and pretty cool. This one went way too conservative in styling.

But the question above all else, is how well will it do in the WRC? the main reason it went hatch back, as opposed the the 4 door sedan... They lost by a few points in manufactures points I think it was, and thats what made subi think that they had to make it a hatch back, just for the extra bit of rigidity.

And Chux, whats wrong with making a pickup fast?

taiwanesekid05
08-19-2007, 05:20 PM
i heard the 08'(?) impreza wrx is almost the same as the old wrx besides the torque comes in at a lower rpm

texan_idiot25
08-19-2007, 05:44 PM
More displacement is almost always means for a flatter torque curve, and better lowend torque. Then the rear suspension was changed from trailing arms to McPherson I think. But for the most part, its not too much different.

everything

all WRXs have had the 2.5 since 2006. they did make a few tuning and piping changes to allow the turbo to spool a bit faster.

haven't heard anything of the rear suspension change. they pretty much nailed it 18 years ago with the gen 1 legacy, and haven't had any reason to change it. and is debatably already MacPherson.

mechanically speaking, imprezas have never changed. they changed little dimensions, made lateral links longer, wider control arms, etc. changed the engine design a bit. only significant differences have been torsional rigidity and styling. which have been HUGE.

Hm? I thought I read some where the Tribeca's motor was going in, or was that another Subi? I cant remember.. Havent read much on this one.

The front suspension uses a MacPherson strut setup while the rear is a new double wishbone suspension.

Thats what I was talking about

Numbchux

?? never heard of that....double wishbone? I wonder if they're referring to the current legacy stuff. hardly a double wishbone.

tribeca had a 3.0 6-cyl, and now a 3.6. no.....not going in the impreza line....not from the factory anyway.

I read it in MT as well. What ever issue it was that had the original release photos of the Impreza. You could also probally find the article on MT's issue archives on their site.

Yeh, I must have the motors mixed up. :eyecraz:

i could care less what everyone else thinks, i think that's a gorgeous car and i can't wait to see an STi version in person because the pictures never do a car justice. i'll definately be watching to see how subaru fares with this car in the WRC this season with the new car

The reason that it has the 2.5 and not the 3.6 from the tribeca is due to WRC rules and regulations stating that they can only have a certain displacement.
That is why the EVO is still running the 4cyl instead of the V-6.
Here are the regs for 2003, but they haven't changed that much engine wise since then.

the rule is 2.0l. 3.6 wouldn't be breaking it any more than a 2.5 would.

the reason they're running 4-cyls instead of 6, is with the currently available technology, plenty of power is available from the 4-cyl, with a fraction of the weight.

You people are right when you say that pictures don't really do justice. I remember when the 06 Impreza came out i thought it was ugly, but i saw it in person, and boy was i amazed! I just want to see the STi version of this one in person before saying anything.

not sure about the Euro WRX....I know the base imps over there get the 1.5 and 1.8 N/A.

but the JDM and Aussie WRXs still get the 2.0. and STis the 2.5.

after looking at the other member's pictures tho, im not a fan of the first generation WRXs tho. The latter mods are sick
